Being a female racer in a male-dominated sport is no easy feat, but Taylor Kuehl has all but broken down the barriers and paved her way through the Truck Series in NASCAR with resilience and pure passion. Over the years she has undoubtedly shown her ability to handle the toughest challenges that come with racing on the tracks and also in the garage, which has now led to some pretty exciting opportunities, like working with the NASCAR star Matt Crafton for instance!
“He said he mostly just appreciated me working on my car and having the same passion that a lot of Grassroots Racers like him have,” she revealed to Kenny Wallace during their conversation on his podcast. Stating that it was a chance encounter at the Cocopah Speedway for the winter nationals in January that set the stage for Crafton to take notice of her work ethic and drive.
At the speedway, Crafton was pitted across from Kuehl and got to witness as she scrambled around the garage to repair her car after a heat race incident. He was in awe as she worked tirelessly alongside her crew, using a few simple tools and a lot of grit, before finally managing to cut off the collector from the header, remove the muffler, and bolt on a new one. He was particularly intrigued by her use of Dino sheets to analyze her shocks and determine the necessary adjustments for the next night of racing and decided to observe the driver for the rest of the week.
Recognizing Taylor Kuehl’s talent and potential, Matt Crafton ultimately decided to support her racing journey by offering her a partnership that would provide the resources and guidance she needed to thrive.
