Despite the difficulties, the race provided an exciting and thrilling spectacle for the fans in attendance, as the drivers navigated the treacherous streets of downtown Chicago. Wet weather has posed as a constant threat for most of the NASCAR races so far, with officials having to pause the event at one point to address puddles forming on the track. Drivers described the conditions as “sudsy” and the frustration of needing to constantly adjust their driving styles to cope with the changing track conditions. While most of them succeed at doing so, it’s still a bit of a task when the terrain itself is causing your vehicle to go a little out of control.
While Denny Hamlin managed to complete the entire 75-lap race, it was no easy feat for the veteran driver. The challenging weather conditions were testing the skills of Hamlin. Although, his struggles were a testament to the unpredictable nature of the Chicago Street Race. The No. 11 Toyota driver expressed that even though the wet roads were not the main issue, the track was shrouded in a mist, which made it extremely difficult for him to see where he was going.
“I didn’t see where I was going,” He explained the situation. “I honestly missed the brake marker there. Yeah, the track just kept changing conditions so much, it was hard to look where you were especially since there was a lot of spray.”
The Chicago track is known for its bendy and unpredictable nature, and this feature mixed with the rain caused the track conditions to be a major obstacle for Hamlin and the rest of the field. While taking all of that into account, Hamlin also missed the brake marker at turn six, causing him to lock up and crash into Ricky Stenhouse Jr., tagging Stenhouse Jr. into the tyre barrier with him. Although it took a while to get his car going again, no yellow flags were waved for the incident.
Ultimately, despite his best efforts, Hamlin found himself falling down the order, eventually finishing the race in a disappointing 30th position. The damp conditions of the Chicago Street Race had taken a significant toll on the talented driver, who was left frustrated by his inability to overcome the challenging circumstances even though he had proved his ability in the past.

Hamlin has showcased his prowess, securing three victories in the first 11 races of the NASCAR Cup Series. This included a dominant performance at Bristol Motor Speedway, where he led over 100 laps en route to the checkered flag. All this has helped Hamlin secure a spot in the playoffs, allowing his team to focus on accumulating more victories rather than just amassing points, which won’t be erased by this minor setback on a rainy day.

Even after the incident with Stenhouse Jr. he still managed to recover and finish the race, regardless if it was the 30th position. That always counts for something and it’s not like it affected his spot in the playoffs by much as he made it out with 8 points. The incident was merely a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of the wet conditions, which had already caused several crashes and delays throughout the event. So don’t worry, team Hamlin!
There are still eight season races left before the final ten NASCAR Cup Series playoffs begin, and if there’s one thing for sure, then Hamlin will be learning from his experiences and continue to put his best foot forward till he reaches the end! Stay tuned because the races are just getting more interesting, NASCAR fans!
