Denny Hamlin, who recently was disqualified at the Pocono raceway after initially winning the race, may have accidentally admitted something. Denny spoke with Racer Magazine while highlighting what transpired at the race last week.

During his interview, Denny said, “They’re really trying to put their foot down on this new car and making sure we’re not messing with any areas that we shouldn’t be messing in. A lot of that is because of the business of it all. They’re trying to help us help ourselves and not spend ridiculous money on these cars for development. That way we can make this a viable business.”
“What had happened was just simply a mix-up with our team”
He added, “When they pulled the wrap on the car back, my crew chief, in particular, was like, Um, what is that? I never even saw that before! So it was a shock to us, for sure.”
Denny further mentioned, “I think that generally speaking if this was any other year but this year with this new car, you would have never even heard about this. It would have been so small that NASCAR would have said, ‘Just don’t bring that back again. That’s the way it has always been.”

Hamlin states that he saw the illegal piece of tape right when they were pulling the wraps. That means he saw the thing before the race started. So if they already knew its existence, why did they want to take a chance with it and not remove it promptly? Now, post this interview, a lot more questions could be asked to Joe Gibbs Racing.
Apart from the race win, Denny Hamlin’s disqualification cost him a whopping $300,000
In NASCAR’s history, Denny became the first to be disqualified after winning a race. Denny lashed out with a series of trolls against NASCAR after Chase Elliott said he did not want the trophy, either. Other than losing the win he also lost the chance to pick up the prize money associated with it.
In one Twitter post, Hamlin says he won’t be giving the chequered flag back to NASCAR.
Yeah, good luck getting that back. https://t.co/f1X8vISlzS

While in another Denny said, “That would be a piece of clear tape worth about 300k. (Not to be included in sale),” most probably talking about the prize money that he lost due to the DQ.

Denny did not seem to be too angry about the entire disqualification fiasco. Instead, he seemed to agree that he crossed the line first and hence, deserved to celebrate.
