The Kentucky Speedway saw Cole Custer becoming the first rookie to be crowned the victor of the NASCAR Cup Series race in almost four years. He won the race by flooding to the lead in a four-wide overtake during the last lap on Sunday.

In the race, Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr. went neck to neck for the lead on lap 265, after the restart. However, it was at that moment when Custer, with a push from Matt DiBenedetto outwardly in the backstretch, made his move in the No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford.

Moreover, as the pioneers packed in turn 1, Custer smoothly went past everyone and clinch the victory.

After winning the race, He said on the radio: “That’s Awesome! Thank you, guys! That was the best car I’ve ever driven.”

Even teammate Clint Bowyer expressed his excitement following Cole Custer’s win. He said: “Did Cole Custer just win the race.”

Custer raced to a Kentucky win last July in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. However, he and different drivers entered Sunday without an opportunity to practice or qualify.

The triumph was the first by a rookie since Chris Buescher at Pocono on August 1st, 2016.

The victory for all intents and purposes secures him in the 16-driver postseason lineup as one of the arrangement’s nine champs this season.
