With the 2024 Cup Series season on the horizon, the 78-year-old veteran owner affirmed that the target remains the same – to chase that elusive championship.

After battling for thirty-odd years without meeting expectations, giving up became an easy choice. But that does not work for Richard. As per NBC Sports, he explained the driving force that keeps him motivated, despite the disappointments of all these years. He said, “What keeps me going? I think chasing that elusive championship.”
“I can leave tomorrow and it’d be over. I don’t need to do what I’m doing, but I feel responsible for every employee I have here, and I don’t want to walk away from them unless I know they’re going to be taken care of. And I still want to win that elusive championship.”

Kevin Harvick’s legacy in NASCAR cannot be just defined by his single championship win in 2014. Especially considering his time in Richard Childress Racing when came tantalizingly close to winning the championship in 2010 and 2013. The third-place finish was the common theme that followed all those years, and since then, the team has never been able to put up a championship contention team. Harvick’s departure left a big void in the RCR, and since then, it has been a downhill ride for the team.
Expressing his regrets, Childress added, “Kevin Harvick was right there. If I had one thing that I regret about Harvick is not winning the championship with him. I felt we were so close so many times. Jimmie [Johnson], a lot of times had it wrapped up, but we were always third or fourth right in there.”
