Over time, we have seen plenty of changes in NASCAR. The governing body has adopted varied approaches to its way of viewing things. While all such approaches have had their pros and cons, they have generated a huge amount of unpredictability and inconsistency in decision-making. And this is exactly something that Dale Earnhardt Jr doesn’t like. Furthermore, after witnessing NASCAR’s recent decisions, he was left stunned.

Junior has always been vocal about NASCAR being soft with their way of scrutinizing certain events. This season though, the way they have gone about their business is surprising not just for him but for many of the fans. Dale Jr recently described what has baffled him the most.

Speaking during the latest episodes of The Dale Jr. Download podcast, the 48-year-old discussed several things. He gave his insights on NASCAR penalizing teams and drivers after the race at the Phoenix Raceway. Co-host Mike Davis described the hypocrisy of some of NASCAR’s decisions, especially after what happened with Denny Hamlin. As per him, on one side people demand a happening race and on the other side, they criticize if the drivers are vocal with their opinion.

To this, Dale Jr said, “Well, so there you go, that’s our take on the HMS penalties, the Kaulig penalties, the Denny Hamlin penalty, maybe I feel like it was a big harsh across the board, maybe because of so much all in one day, I don’t really know.”

He then explained how he had earlier hoped NASCAR to be strict with their approach. He also admitted that the current set of decisions has come out of the blue even for him. Junior said, “I know that I have said in the past that I want NASCAR to be mean and stern and come down with a hammer on everything. But boy, I think this was a bigger hammer than I ever thought they would use.”

Surely, this was unexpected for many. Recently, even Kyle Busch has been confirmed as the latest victim of NASCAR’s stern approach.
