The 2024 Cup Series is set to witness several changes this year. While manufacturers, Toyota and Ford, have gone ahead and brought in new car models, Chevrolet has opted to not change their car. Despite that, one of the NASCAR representatives still believes Hendrick Motorsports remains in strong contention to win the championship this year.

Ever since the Gen-7 car was introduced, there has been a lot of unpredictability associated with them. While Ford has enjoyed championship success twice, Toyota’s New Camry XSE this year is expected to change its fortunes.

For the 2024 Cup Series campaign, Chevrolet will continue with the sixth-generation Camaro. While the future of Chevrolet and Camaro remains uncertain, it is interesting how the Michigan-based manufacturer has taken the bold move of not changing the car design. The Toyota Camry XSE and Ford Mustang Dark Horse have fresh production car designs for this year. However, Chevrolet believes in its Camaro to do the job.

Not only that, even the experienced NASCAR journalist Jordan Bianchi believes so. Discussing the 2024 championship, Bianchi and fellow journalist Jeff Gluck spoke in length on the Dirty Mo Media platform. Gluck expressed his surprise with Bianchi choosing Hendrick Motorsports as one of the favorites to win the championship for this year’s campaign. While HMS has always been a giant in the sport, the prediction looked a bit shocking considering how its rivals have gotten stronger with a new car model.

Unsurprisingly, Bianchi had some basis for what he had to say. He said, “I’m just kind of assuming that like Hendrick is Hendrick. Hendrick does a really good job of always staying in the mix and staying competitive and they have such a smart talent pool over there to lean on.”

Furthermore, Bianchi believes the drivers Hendrick Motorsports has at its disposal are the key to their chances. Additionally, he said, “Yeah, they don’t have the newest car but it’s not like they’re just going to like to throw their hands up. There’s some really smart guys over there and let’s be honest their drivers are damn talented.”

Not only that, to support Bianchi’s argument, Gluck picked one specific HMS driver to look forward to.

It’s been two years since Hendrick Motorsports last tasted the championship victory. In the 2023 season, despite having two drivers in the final four, Ryan Blaney cruised to victory. Not only that, Chase Elliott’s struggles in the last campaign were totally unforeseen.

On the brighter side, one of the most promising things for Hendrick Motorsports was William Byron’s run. With a third-placed finish, six wins, 15 top-five, and 21 top-ten finishes, Byron enjoyed the best run of his Cup Series career so far.

Speaking about it, Jeff Gluck said, “I think we’ve only seen sort of the tip of the iceberg with [William] Byron. Yeah, he didn’t win the championship last year but he made his first final four. He’s getting better and better and he’s still young. He’s definitely going to win multiple titles.”

Indeed, William Byron will be the one to watch for Hendrick Motorsports. With Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott already knowing what it takes to win the championship, the Cup Series giants definitely remain the favorites regardless of their preference to not have a new car this year.
