Who will drive the number 7 car of Spire Motorsports? Certainly not, Corey LaJoie. Lajoie will not be racing for the team in the 2025 season. While his plans are uncertain, there are some speculations that he might race in the lower leagues. However, LaJoie has left his future career plans to the lord all mighty.
In a recent episode of Stacking Pennies Podcast, Corey Lajoie talked about how he has sponsors but not a ride. Further in the conversation, he also goes on to say how he’s willing to go with any team that is ready to win.

The NASCAR Cup Series or even his brief time at the Truck Series has not yielded him any results. In his 7 years in the Cup Series, he’s not won a single race. He’s gotten 4 top 5 finishes and his best career finish is 4th. Entering 2024, LaJoie and Spire Motorsports had high hopes, but to no avail. In the current season, he is 28th in points with one top 10 and one top 5 finish. If the next four races don’t give him a win, his chances for playoffs seem extremely slim. Racers who have bad seasons would try to put it in the past and look forward to their next one. However, LaJoie isn’t enjoying that liberty.
A positive that he still has is the continuing support from his sponsors. In the episode of Stacking Pennies Podcast, he talked about how his sponsors have backed him since day one. He said, “That’s also why I’ve put so much emphasis on trying to grow the partners that have been with me from legitimately the jump from BK, Schluter Systems they have been with me for 7 years and they are going to continue to stay with me. Celsius has been a great partner.” Where his poor performance pulls him down, having financial backing might still give him access to a ride.
However, what are his plans for that? At the moment, he’s left it to the lord. On the same lines, he said, “Now with all that being said, there are a lot of things outside of my control. There are a lot of things in my control, but when it comes to opening doors to stay on Sunday or Saturday or Friday for that matter. Its a lot about outside my control. Where I put a lot of faith in where the lord wants me next.” After the kind of season that he’s had. LaJoie is still confident in his skills and abilities. Although he has only gotten one top-10 finish this season and only 9 top-10s in 7 years, Lajoie still thinks he is a top-15 guy. A confident LaJoie further went on to say, “I feel like I can still give any team that would be willing to talk, a chance to win as well.”
For LaJoie to come under the radar of new teams, he will have to score a podium finish in the last 4 races before playoffs.

LaJoie in his parting statement, said, “I take a lot of satisfaction from having an integral part of building Spire into a respectable team on the grid, but unfortunately the future won’t involve me. We will finish the remainder of 2024 strong, continuing to deliver for my partners, my guys who work hard to build good cars, family, fans & friends who have supported me since day one in the Cup Series.”
For a guy who probably doesn’t have a ride going into the 2025 season, LaJoie sounded pretty calm. In the conversation, they talked about how he had gotten the news while the host Ryan Flores complimented him on his haircut. He said, “You know people say you dress for the job that you want not the job you have so I got a haircut I might grow the beard out a little bit too but yeah as uh I assume everybody listens to the show saw the news um excited for the two we off break uh then I got fired so I got fired on Wednesday um they didn’t really give me a whole lot of reasons.” Perhaps to blow off some steam, LaJoie took his RV out for a trip after he got the news.

LaJoie spoke of how being in this situation didn’t make him uncomfortable. For him, it has always been year-long deals. Flores asked him how did he react. To which LaJoie had a calm reply, “You go through all the emotions mad, sad, it’s natural human tendency to go
into like the victim who was me mindset.” According to him, at the end of it, he was just left with an appreciation for his team and the people involved. Everyone who has supported him since the beginning.
