In 2017, during the AAA Texas 500 NASCAR Cup Series race, Larson’s car erupted in flames after a crash. This incident resulted in a 10-minute red flag period. Despite leading laps and winning a stage, Larson’s day ended in disappointment, finishing 37th.
The following year, in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, Kyle Larson faced yet another setback. A heavy crash in Stage 2 knocked him out of contention. While Larson praised NASCAR’s safety measures and escaped injury, his race ended prematurely. This crash came after an impressive climb from the rear of the field following pre-race inspection issues.
In 2022, during the All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway, Larson’s bid for a third All-Star Race victory was cut short by a grinding crash. While running second, his car slid into the wall in Turn 4, causing significant damage. However, despite these incidents, Larson’s resilience and talent remain undisputed.
With this crash-prone history at Texas, it’s understandable why Larson and his team might approach the upcoming race with caution. While his playoff dominance is impressive, the unpredictability of Texas could pose a significant challenge. Larson knows that maintaining his championship journey requires avoiding potential pitfalls.

During his visit, Larson expressed his excitement about connecting with the students. Some of them may become NASCAR fans after this encounter. He recognized the importance of sharing the thrill of the sport with the younger generation, fostering a deeper connection between fans and NASCAR. Students at New Hanover High School had a unique opportunity to engage with Larson’s world. They witnessed what it’s like to work on a NASCAR pit crew, learning the ins and outs of tasks like changing tires and fueling the car. Larson’s visit, coupled with the generous grant, promises to equip students with valuable tools for potential careers.
Dr. Charles Faust, New Hanover County School Superintendent, emphasized the significance of the grant, which will directly benefit the school’s Career Technical Education program. The grant’s impact will extend to the classroom, further enhancing educational opportunities. “Getting to come out here and see these kids and you know, maybe some of them are already NASCAR fans. But maybe we’ll have some more after. And you’ll get to come in here and talk to them about our sport every weekend,” said Larson according to wtci12.com.
In his interaction with the students, Larson emphasized the value of hard work, dedication, and intent in any career path. These principles, he believes, are key to success, whether on the racetrack or in life. “Really, I mean, hard work in anything that you do. Not only just this career but working hard, having intent with what you do, and dedication to whatever you’re trying to succeed at, I think, is important.”
