Motorsport drivers are mentally strong enough to handle multiple failed attempts before making it to the playoffs. However, it takes nerves of steel to try again and again, despite failing every time. By every time, we mean ‘Did Not Qualify’ for seven consecutive years. That’s right!

Debuted in NASCAR in 1989, Norm Benning had high hopes in his eyes to ace the race on the ovals. Regardless of his stern preparations, his Daytona 500 dream remained unfulfilled, owing to which he left the Cup Series and transitioned to the Truck Series. Now, the veteran is hoping for another shot and is inches away from it.

After years of dismaying outcomes and frustrating Daytona outings, in 2002, Benning parted ways with Cup Series and ventured into the Craftsman Truck Series, driving for Troxell Racing.

However, he kept the Daytona dream alive but missed the 2009 Truck Series at Daytona and withdrew from the 2011 Daytona 500. Nevertheless, the passion for racing in the 71-year-old, seemed infinite as he didn’t stop from racing, even though he shifted teams, he kept pursuing his Daytona dream, and Benning’s efforts for another shot in the 2024 Daytona serve as a testament to it.

In order to spread the word about Benning’s return to Daytona and gather the remaining funds, NASCAR insider Brock Beard took to X and unveiled the details about his call with the Truck Series veteran and wrote, “Just got off the phone with Norm Benning. He is finalizing a deal with another team that intends to enter him at @DAYTONA’s Truck race this coming February 2024. In Norm’s words, it’s ‘The best ride I’ve ever had. The best opportunity to run up front at Daytona ever.’ He’s even 2/3rds of the way there on sponsorship. But he needs to secure that last 1/3rd THIS MONTH to lock-in the ride.
