NASCAR was sent into a frenzy when SVG, a foreign driver, achieved a historic victory in his very first NASCAR start in over 60 years. His remarkable triumph was made possible by Trackhouse Racing‘s ‘Project 91,’ which provided him with a golden opportunity to showcase his extensive racing experience in the world of NASCAR. While SVG is ready for his return, Chase Elliott recently shared interesting insights about the new entries.
While some praised his skillful tactics, others within the NASCAR community raised questions about how a newcomer could achieve such a feat while seasoned drivers struggled to do the same. Amidst the ongoing discussions, SVG is set to make a comeback at Indianapolis Speedway in August. Joining him in the same race will be a new entry from New Zealand, Brodie Kostecki, who will be taking the wheel of RCR’s #33 car.

After SVG’s Chicago win, Justin Marks informed the media that there would not be any further Project 91 entries this year, citing the need to allocate additional resources and time to the #91 car. However, contrary to this statement, a recent announcement revealed that he will, in fact, be making a comeback at Indianapolis Raceway under the ‘Project 91’ banner.
Well, Shane’s victory stirred controversy among some individuals who argued that his prior experience driving heavy and faster Supercars gave him an advantage. However, Chase Elliott, having a different perspective, welcomed his entry and expressed hope that more drivers like him would participate in more races.
Chase said, “I hope all of those guys come and run more races because I think it’ll make us better at the end of the day. That’s super cool and I’m glad to hear that he got another opportunity. I mean the guy went and won the race – he deserves to race however much he wants.”
The No. 9 Chevy enthusiastically expressed his excitement about racing alongside the Kiwi drivers and said, “I thought he did it the right way and that is very admirable, and I think people like that deserve great opportunities. Looking forward to having him back and racing against both of those guys.”

After the Chicago race, Kyle Busch had a differing opinion about Shane Van Gisbergen, the 3x Supercar Champion and NASCAR rookie of the season. While acknowledging Shane’s rookie status in NASCAR, Kyle emphasized, “Obviously being a rookie to NASCAR, yes. But not being whatsoever a rookie in road racing and the expertise he has.”
Richard Childress Racing driver, also emphasized that he believes that SVG had a considerable advantage due to his experience driving V8 supercars. Kyle told the presser,
“That’s what he is grown up doing. That’s what he has done in his whole life. He’s done in bigger, heavier stock cars, not lighter-weight GT cars or IMSA cars or something like that. So he is probably four, five, or eight years ahead of us in this sort of car and the things that he’s done with the V8 supercar”

On the other hand, SVG himself believed that his experience in street races gave him an edge over some NASCAR drivers who were not as familiar with this particular racing style. He expressed confidence in making moves in the sharp corners of Chicago, while he observed that some NASCAR drivers appeared hesitant to do so. The street race champion also expressed his belief that, over time, these NASCAR drivers would adapt to street racing and improve their performance.
