Since joining hands with Roush Fenway Racing, Brad Keselowski has led the team as an example. Coming in as an owner-driver, Brad had high expectations to perform, especially in taking the right step for his team. And he has seamlessly transitioned into the team, and as things stand, they have set themselves on course to challenge for the championship.

On the other hand, Keselowski’s driving sensation and Daytona winner, Chris Buescher, has been the piledriver for RFK Racing this season. Taking the Cup Series by storm, he has delivered the goods in the #17 Mustang with three wins this season. However, according to Buescher, there is a slight contrast in the pair’s approach to races.

RFK Racing’s performance has put them in the spotlight. While Brad Keselowski has taken a slow and steady approach to qualifying for the playoffs, Buescher swept the grid in consecutive races at Richmond and Michigan to announce his entry.

The team’s gradual growth has made the community take notice of it. NASCAR has documented the team’s journey in the 2023 season in a well-presented video to celebrate their achievement. In one of the segments of the video, NASCAR host and reporter Alex Weaver sits down for a conversation with Chris Buescher. A topic that rolls by in their talks is the experience of working with an immensely experienced veteran like Brad Keselowski.

“A little bit tricky at times,” answers Buescher. “One of the first interviews that we sat down and did together at a racetrack in front of a bunch of fans, I felt like we were on a couch or something. It was a little bit too relaxed and the question is, well if y’all are running 1-2 and we’ll shoot through behind him. Do you wreck them?”

The No. 17 Ford Mustang driver had a witty and strong-willed reply at the back of his mind to the question.

He discloses, “I’m sitting here thinking, ‘What’s he gonna say?’ I was like, ‘Well, here’s the thing. I want you to know that we’re gonna race hard, and we’re gonna put on a show to the line‘, and I think he appreciated that answer.”

Buescher has a hint of satisfaction in his smile as he speaks about the way Keselowski has been a leader for the team. The 30-year-old will be relying on more support from his team owner as they embark on the test of the playoffs together.

Last season, the team experienced a major blip in its form. Despite winning at Bristol in the latter stages of the series, Buescher failed to land a playoff spot, and so did Keselowski. Yet they trusted their team to repay their faith coming into 2023. Buescher’s resurgence is not something one would consider totally out of the box. His performance at Bristol last season was truly something that helped the team regain confidence in their vision.

Keselowski‘s presence, on the other hand, has created a perfect mix of talent and experience in the garage, making them a strong candidate for this year’s championship. Evaluating the options as an owner and taking the right steps has also been pivotal to their newfound success. Revealing more about his mindset, Keselowski said, “It didn’t speak to a common approach, I wanted every person to come in with the same box, same quality, (to show) ‘We’re all in this together.’”

“You don’t control results. You influence the results. Big difference,” he says. “What do you control? That’s the top left. You control your values.”

It is safe to say that Keselowski has redefined the way things work at RFK Racing. More importantly, he brought back the long-lost confidence and zeal among his driver roster that will benefit them in their pursuit of the big trophy.
