The NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan was one that stretched over two days due to rain. It saw its fair share of drivers crashing out, including former champions and seasoned veterans. One such driver was Kyle Busch. The former Cup Series champion was tagged by Ryan Blaney in Stage 1 and he spun out after failing to get his car under control. After the suspension of the remainder of the race on Sunday, Denny Hamlin sat down with his longtime friend Jared Allen to discuss the race thus far.

While talking about the Busch-Blaney incident, Allen compared it to Denny Hamlin’s contact with Kyle Larson during the race. Safe to say that Hamlin did not take it too kindly. On a recent episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, Denny Hamlin retorted back against Jared Allen’s insinuation.

“Do they make contact? That was a similar amount of contact like you and Kyle Larson had,” Jared Allen asked Denny Hamlin as they were discussing the Busch-Blaney incident.

Hamlin responded, “Oh give me a break. You see tyre smoke on this. Do I need to rewind this for you? Where are all the critical people out there? ‘Oh, you touched!’ You touched!’ What about all these people today running each other off the race track, is that fine?”

“By the way, it’s Stage 1. Not for a win. Yeah, did you see the smoke? Yeah, they hit and then Kyle gets loose,” the Joe Gibbs Racing driver added.

Hamlin would then go on to sympathize with Christopher Bell, who spun out from a good position in the race. Bell had managed to bag pole position and was running quite well in the initial stages of the race. While in the lead, Bell spun out and his car suffered a bit of damage.

He fell lower down in the pack as the race was suspended. In the end, he could only manage to finish in 13th place.

“There’s only one good news for Kyle over like Christopher Bell. Kyle’s going home. And he don’t have to wait this rain out. Poor C. Bell has got a damaged car and he might be here a while with a car that’s damaged,” Hamlin said.

In the same podcast episode, Hamlin was asked about Kevin Harvick’s chances and the JGR man did not seem to have that much belief in the veteran. Although Harvick has won four out of the last five races at Michigan, his current form did not convince Hamlin that he could do it again. And he was right.

Jared Allen had asked what Hamlin thought of Harvick’s chances, given that the latter is known as the king of Michigan.

Hamlin opined, “Yeah I know that, but so much is different. I mean, it really is. The cars are so much different. Yes, he won in Next-Gen last year. There were a lot of factors that played into that. Track position. I think that the SHR cars were stronger last year than what they are this year. Yeah, I mean, for now, he looks pedestrian.”

As it turned out, the 42-year-old was bang on the money. Harvick had a good performance with the Stewart-Haas Racing car but wasn’t close to winning the race at any point. He finished in eighth place and added 29 points to his tally.
