“Bro’s gonna use up all his luck at the slot machines instead of the race track.” A fan’s cryptic warning may have turned a little too true for Denny Hamlin. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver made a splash in Las Vegas – not on the racetrack, but in a casino. Starting with 11 grand, whatever investment he made ballooned into a much higher amount.
However, Lady Luck deserted him a little too long after Hamlin’s jackpot – leading to a spine-chilling disaster in his North Carolina home.

Denny Hamlin and his family brush with a fiery fallout
As a 54-time Cup Series race winner, the veteran has a lavish home. Having completed it in 2016 on a 2.8-acre lot on Lake Norman, North Carolina, Denny Hamlin revamped the house several times. Worth $1.375 million initially, a 30,000-square-foot lakefront house comes with six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and two half-baths. It is worth a reported $9.7 million right now. Hamlin shares this property with a beautiful family, with partner Jordan Fish and daughters Molly and Taylor. However, a dangerous mishap could have easily derailed their happiness.
After Denny Hamlin won around $330 grand on his Sin City adventure, he had a sinister fate lined up for him. The veteran NASCAR driver posted a series of stories on Instagram to indicate what happened. Without writing anything on the first two, he conveyed horrific scenes of his home. The camera panned across a big patch of his lawn which caught flames like a biblical fire – right at the edge of his house. This chilling video was immediately accompanied by another, which was a little relieving. The flames had been doused, and just a black patch remained on the affected area.

Clearly, Lady Luck left Denny Hamlin’s midst for too long after Las Vegas. Thankfully, he and his family detected the danger quickly and called fire crew responders to the scene. In a later story on Instagram, Hamlin explained what happened in a small caption: “Lawnmower caught fire.” He panned the camera towards the emergency crew who were still hosing out his lawn, in a mark of gratitude.
Yet this is hardly the first time Denny Hamlin played with fire. Things could have turned into a disaster for Daniel Suarez in Daytona last year.

Hamlin set off a blaze
The 2024 Coke Zero Sugar 400 race was memorable for a lot of bad reasons. Ranging from Josh Berry’s terrifying flip to a massive 17-car crash, Cup Series drivers faced a lot. But during one of the initial pit stops, things could have turned a lot worse for Daniel Suarez’s No. 99 Chevrolet. Incidentally, Denny Hamlin parked his No. 11 Toyota right behind Suarez on pit road. The two cars scraped and caused a spark – that led to a blazing fire in Suarez’s trunk. The Mexican driver returned to pit road after his stop with his car still ablaze. He claimed he could feel the heat behind him but could not see it due to the lack of a rearview mirror angle. The rearview camera did not show the fire.
Daniel Suarez recollected this fiery incident with Denny Hamlin in August last year. “I was doing my pit stop just like every other weekend. The No. 11 was right behind me and the No. 21 was right in front of me, so unfortunately I got boxed in…The No. 11 was leaving his pit stall right behind me. And because he was waiting for me to leave, his exhaust fired up the little fuel I dropped. Because I was still parked there, that went up the back of my car where the fuel cell is and just grabbed it.”
