Denny Hamlin’s $25,000 Fine for Speaking Against NASCAR Comes Back Into Picture Amid Kevin Harvick’s Controversial Penalty for ‘Similar Reasons’

It is no secret that Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick have been the most vocal drivers about the Next Gen cars. Now it seems that NASCAR is getting in some passive-aggressive revenge. It all started when Kevin Harvick’s crew chief was fined $100,000 and suspended for the next four races.

This was because the Stewart-Haas Racing team was allegedly guilty of illegally modifying a single source supplying part. Admittedly, this would not have been looked into so deeply. Especially considering that Brad Keselowski and Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing were hit with a similar offense.

Where does Denny Hamlin fit into all this drama?

Interestingly, Hamlin also once copped a hefty fine. The reason behind the $25,000 fine in 2013 was for ‘disparaging remarks’ about the Gen 6 car. If we’re being honest though, it should have been expected that NASCAR would not take Hamlin’s comments lying down.

Obviously, Denny Hamlin was furious when he found out about the fine. He said, “Ultimately, I’m not OK with it. This is the most upset and angry I’ve been in a really, really long time about anything … anything that relates to NASCAR. The truth is what the truth is. I don’t believe in this. I’m never going to believe in it. As far as I’m concerned, I’m not going to pay the fine. If they suspend me, they suspend me. I don’t care at this point.”

Hamlin was upset that NASCAR decided to go down this route instead of talking to the drivers about the issues. According to him, it was nothing short of disrespect towards him, that he was hit with a fine. He insisted that his comments were taken completely out of context.
