Is this young prodigy the future of NASCAR, or just a flash in the pan?

If you’re to ask for the summary of the first 14 races in the 2024 NASCAR Truck Series, a two-name summary would suffice- Corey Heim and Christian Eckes. And although with the modern playoff system, four drivers are going to compete for the championship for sure, it seems most like a two-horse race. They are neck to neck battling it out every time, and this time at Pocono, it was no different. Although one horse is definitely mightier than the other!

Corey Heim is the man of the hour, and his recent win at Pocono managed to create history!

It’s a Corey Heim world!

Denny Hamlin’s ace Heim proved that it is indeed a Corey Heim world and the rest of the grid is just living in it—he just won for the fifth time this season at Pocono! And no one could catch up to him. But that’s not to say he didn’t face challenges. In fact, the start of the race wasn’t that great, and he did face tough competition from the get-go from Eckes. But he managed to secure that stage one win. Despite a caution brought out by Rajah Caruth in the final 40-lap stage and a rain delay of eight laps remaining, Heim held off challenges from Enfinger and Eckes to clinch victory.

The race, the longest Truck Series event at Pocono, was completed under green without overtime. Everyone and mostly Denny Hamlin had high hopes for Heim and he did more than stand tall on it. He now is 11 points up Eckes, who himself has three wins this season. Sanchez, who is in third place, is 113 points away from the lead, giving an idea of how way ahead they are than the rest of the field. A new history was created which Trey Ryan posted. He said on X Corey Heim and Christian Eckes have combined to lead over 51% of ALL POSSIBLE laps in the 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. This is on track to be the most dominant Truck Series season by two drivers since 1996 (2nd ever season)”

Even though Corey Heim and Christian Eckes are not Verstappen and Hamilton level, it’s thrilling to watch two of NASCAR’s top drivers go head-to-head week after week. Now with just two races remaining till the playoffs, it’s getting more thrilling than ever!

As for Heim, he didn’t want to let this win go at all, and he did not.

Corey Heim going into the race was looking for redemption from last year’s disaster. Last year he was leading on the final lap but Kyle Busch came raging in through the tunnel and scooted past him and took the win. That loss was what drove him to give it his all this race. After doing the victory celebration, he explained why he was hell-bent on winning the race.

He said, “I feel like I was really down the next couple of days after the [2023 Pocono] race. I knew I was going to come back here the next year and win it. I just came with that mentality and nobody was gonna take it from me, so that’s what I thought all the race and that’s what we did,” the Pocono race winner said via Sirius XM NASCAR Radio on X (0.34).”

Just like on the last lap last year, it all seemed to go awry this time too. It looked like things might go wrong. But what a save by Heim. Enfinger was leading the last lap but Heim didn’t let it go. He zoomed through the lap and soon closed in on him and took the win he wanted so badly. He didn’t want a Déjà vu moment!

So, although there were cautions, rain delays, and tough competitions, he moved through them all. He even said how he never thought he could win five races this season and thanked his crew chief and his team. According to him — his team plays a huge part in his success, he called them, a “badass crew.”
