Who had a celebratory bite of the lobster? Martin Truex Jr! In his 19-year-long NASCAR Cup Series career, Truex Jr has competed at New Hampshire since 2006. Coming close to victory several times, Martin Truex Jr failed to win at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway for 17 years straight. But when he finally did, he swept it clean!
Starting from the second spot on the grid, the Joe Gibbs Racing #19 driver passed teammate and pole winner Christopher Bell during the initial laps of stage one. Leading for 254 laps in the Crayon 301 Cup Series race, Truex Jr secured his third race win of the 2023 season. While Martin Truex Jr put an end to his 17-year NHMS drought, his win failed to appease JGR teammate, Denny Hamlin.

Flawlessly grabbing the Crayon 301 Cup Series race’s stage one and stage two wins, Martin Truex Jr had his eyes set on the lobster prize. While Truex Jr went on to drive down New Hampshire’s victory lane, JGR’s #11 Denny Hamlin finished the race in the seventh spot. Having earlier taken a dig at Truex Jr after his “unexciting” Sonoma victory, Hamlin once again threw shade at his teammate’s Crayon 301 win.

In a recent episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, Denny Hamlin and co-host Jared Allen discussed his win at New Hampshire. “The Cup race, man oh man! Martin Truex (Jr) just kicked our teeth in,” Hamlin said.
To this, Jared Allen added, “That guy knows how to stink up our show.”
Hamlin went on, “Yeah! What do you think Jeff Gluck’s ‘Was that a good race poll’ is gonna come out at? Hold on, I have my answer right here.”
Jared Allen then speculated the poll results to be at 73%. Replying to Allen’s guess, Denny Hamlin revealed the result. “I have 61%. Again, Martin Truex victories usually aren’t very exciting ones because when he wins, he wins big. He’s a 10-run baseball game. He’s a 3 touchdown football game. I mean, right from the first lap of practice, he’s just had the field covered,” the #11 Joe Gibbs Racing driver said.

Further in the podcast, Denny Hamlin reflected on the different setups and driving styles possessed by the Joe Gibbs Racing teammates. When questioned by Jared Allen on how Martin Truex Jr manages to dominate the field, Hamlin revealed, “He’s really really good, really good. And when they hit on it, I mean, we know what they have in their car right? We drive differently, so it’s very hard to just cut and paste and say, ‘Surely if I ran exactly what he did, I’d have the same result’. I wouldn’t, first of all.”

Earlier taking a dig at his teammate, Hamlin then even praised Martin Truex Jr’s race-winning capabilities. “It’s like when he has speed in practice, you can just count on him leading 200 laps wherever we are at. It’s just when they unload fast, they are fast the whole weekend,” Denny Hamlin added.
