Last weekend at the Pocono Raceway, Chase Elliott inherited the win after Denny Hamlin got disqualified. Admittedly, Hamlin still had the trophy with him but has now confirmed that he is giving it back to Elliott. However, he did confess that the Pocono flag would be harder to obtain.

He said, “The trophy is here in Indianapolis. It’s going to be transported. I told Chase that, we have some good text back and forth. I said, ‘Trophy’s yours, you’re going to have to fight Taylor [Hamlin’s daughter] for the flag.'”

Hamlin was referring to the tradition of the winning driver getting the chequered flag. Apparently, Hamlin handed the flag to his daughter, Taylor. So, he joked that if Elliott wanted the flag, he would have to go through her first.

Of course, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver was pretty gutted to have his well-deserved win snatched away. Meanwhile, Elliott confessed that it didn’t feel right to him to earn a win in this manner. In his mind, he crossed the finish in third place, but then again, the numbers don’t lie and he is counted as the winner.

On the bright side, this does not affect them in the championship, as they have qualified for the Playoffs. However, they are all on the hunt for the regular season title.

At the same time, they all have to make sure that there are no more new race winners. Otherwise, it will jeopardize many other drivers in terms of Playoffs qualification.

Not counting this weekend’s race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, there are four races left. In other words, the drivers need to ensure that the winners’ list remains at 14 drivers and doesn’t grow any longer.
