Kyle Busch’s season has been like navigating through a stormy sea. Each race saw him battling several waves of trouble with no respite. Despite his efforts to steer through the rough weather and get through, every race he comes out hopeful, but he gets another disappointment. From getting into crashes to causing the crashes and mechanical failure, he cannot seem to catch a break.

And lately, the Richard Childress driver had paltry words to tell the press in the aftermath of the Pocono race—almost looks like he has given up! But Hamlin doesn’t believe that this is the truth for Kyle Busch.

For Kyle Busch, this season will be etched in his memory as the cursed season! He just can’t seem to do anything that helps him get a better result. Race after race, he crashes, multiple DNFs, and, in Pocono, he managed to do something one wouldn’t believe a guy who swept weekends to do—he got his fifth DNF in the last seven races.

All the remaining hope that was left of a miracle to happen and him reaching the playoffs all washed away with that. Kevin Harvick mentioned that he doesn’t see any hope for Busch to make it to the playoffs. He, after all, has fallen over a hundred points below the playoff elimination line. And he didn’t have much to say to the media after the race. That was shocking to Hamlin, and given that he has raced Busch for over two decades, he isn’t used to Rowdy having this attitude.

Denny Hamlin, in his podcast Actions Detrimental, said, “I just don’t believe that to be Kyle Busch. I just don’t. you know you’ve seen interviews from Kyle in the past and he’s had the oh-well attitude. But on the inside, he is full of fire. And when the camera turns off, he’ll then be the fiery Kyle Busch. But I don’t know this is different than what I have seen before.”

According to him, even though Busch showed his soft side on the inside, he always had the fire that he felt was missing, and that was new. Also, he doesn’t subscribe to the narrative that others seem to have set for Kyle Busch, whose competitive juices have run dry. Even though Busch’s season shows no ray of hope, Hamlin chose to believe in him. He said, “But again, you’re not going to turn off the competitive juices of someone like Kyle Busch; it just doesn’t turn off.”

But Kyle Busch’s mental instability didn’t come right after one bad race. It’s a compounding of multiple frustrations from multiple races. Never before this long without a race win. Not just Hamlin, but even other veterans like Dale Earnhardt Jr have spoken out in his favor.

Dale Earnhardt Jr was caught off-guard when a question was posed to him by his podcast co-host. His co-host asked, “Do you think Kyle Busch has lost his talent? Granted, Busch is in the lowest streak of his career, but that doesn’t discount the caliber he has. Kyle Busch, also known as Rowdy, is the most successful driver in the Cup series, with over 63 wins. If you include all three NASCAR series, he has a staggering 231 wins to his name!

So when Andrew Kurland posed that question to Junior, he didn’t pause to defend Kyle Busch. Dale Earnhardt said, “Why are you asking me that?… Do you know that [he] is one of the best drivers? The pressure has to be on RCR here. I have never worked with Kyle, but I have heard that the guy is hands-on. Kyle Busch, I don’t believe is at fault because ‘he’s not plugged in, not available, not accountable.”

Busch has the support of more people than he knows about. Veterans know he is capable, and his stats speak for themselves. But his struggles are indeed quite evident. And in fact, he voiced it after Chicago about how heartbreaking it is. As far as Pocono, Dale Earnhardt Jr puts the entire blame on Corey LaJoie, who, due to a lack of better decision-making, shoved or essentially bullied Busch on track. Plus, he even defended his race-ending move on Busch, saying it was not a “bonehead” move.

He said, “I think it’s Corey’s fault.” It’s Cory’s the one in control here. Cory’s the one that can control whether this happens or it doesn’t happen.” What do you think Kyle Busch is losing his flair for? Or is this just a phase that will fade? Let us know!
