Every NASCAR driver has a legion of fans who are pretty loyal to them. So does Denny Hamlin, who boasts of a sizeable fanbase. There will also be some people who are fans of more than one driver, so even if one doesn’t perform well, the other can pick up the slack. However, Hamlin was not such a big fan of this concept of a backup favorite driver.
In a recent episode of his podcast, he answered some fan reviews on his podcast. There was one such review, where a fan revealed what could be considered a VERY controversial take in NASCAR. Apparently, he was a fan of Richard Childress Racing star, Kyle Busch, and Team Penske’s Joey Logano. Safe to say, this baffled Hamlin because both Busch and Logano are completely different people, and he had a staunch verdict for the person.

Highlighting the stark contrast in the personalities of Busch and Logano, Hamlin mentioned on his podcast, “This guy’s got problems anyway. If he’s a Kyle Busch and Logano fan? That’s oil and water.”
Completing his straightforward and harsh verdict, he added, “Oh… Great! Appreciate that, Hardy…. Thanks for that review, we appreciate that, appreciate you listening. You might need to get your head checked if you’re a Logano and Busch fan. I appreciate your review, but you’re going to have to hit me up on social and let me know how you became fans of both. These two guys might be as opposite as you possibly can get. Maybe he just wants to cover his bases?”
Both Busch and Logano have been bitter rivals for much of their careers. They even engaged in a few brawls over the years, some of which even got bloody.

One of the most recent clashes between them was during the 2023 Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum. At the time, Busch had dubbed Logano as two-faced, but the #22 driver practically embraced the moniker. Although both have mellowed out a little as the years passed, they will always be rivals.

So far, the 2024 season has been a mixed bag for Busch, with occasionally decent results, but he often drops down the order. Meanwhile, Logano had a fairly rough start to his campaign, with only one Top 3 finish this season. This was at a time when Chevrolet and Toyota were practically sharing victories, and Ford was nowhere. Then at the Darlington Raceway, Brad Keselowski opened the floodgates with his first win in a very long time.
Then during the NASCAR All-Star race, Joey Logano followed it up with a second consecutive Ford win. This pretty much went a long way in proving that Ford was back and Keselowski’s win was no flash in the pan. The bad news is that, because it was an All-Star win, it does not count toward securing a Playoff berth. On the other hand, this will definitely be a massive confidence booster for Joey Logano, ahead of Gateway.
