The relationship between Ty Gibbs and Joey Logano may have started off on the wrong foot. During Sunday’s race in Martinsville, the Team Penske man seemed to lose his cool on track. It happened in the final stage when Logano spun Gibbs, with Ryan Blaney and Denny Hamlin fighting for the lead just ahead of them. Hamlin, who was fuming with Logano then, offered a solution to the defending champion’s issues on his podcast.

That one moment was crucial for Denny Hamlin. The JGR man was giving everything he had to make it to Phoenix and the Championship 4 roster. When Logano drove into the back of Gibbs, the #54 hit Hamlin, who lost ground to Blaney. In the heat of the moment, Hamlin must have felt like Logano did it to help out his teammate, but upon further discussion, he realized that there was something completely unrelated going on.

Denny Hamlin is not exactly the most liked man in NASCAR, and over the years, he has made quite a few enemies. One of the more recent ones was Ross Chastain. The two had been going back and forth at each other for the longest time, wrecking and ruining each other’s races. Unfortunately, the situation Joey Logano and Ty Gibbs find themselves in mirrored just that.

On a recent episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, the driver of the #11 revealed how he made up with Ross Chastain earlier this year. It is something Logano and Gibbs could do to sort out their difference, as it worked like a treat with Hamlin and Chastain.

“Listen, I could tell you from experience with the Ross thing, it just never ends. You just keep going back and forth until somebody has to wave a white flag. For me and Ross, it was eventually having a face-to-face conversation on pit road at Phoenix. And from that point on, I’ve been raced entirely fair by Ross,” the Joe Gibbs Racing star said.

Denny Hamlin also revealed that Ross Chastain has done more than just stick to his word. Ever since Phoenix, the #1 car has let the #11 pass on multiple occasions due to the pace difference between the two. It is a favor that Hamlin hopes to repay in the near future.

“For the bulk of the year, you know, we’ve been faster than Ross, so, he has let us go. Now, it’s my job next year if he is faster to repay that favor back to him because he extended the first olive branch after the Phoenix incident to start letting me go. I mean it was multiple times in a row, and so, he hasn’t been fast enough really,” the Actions Detrimental host added.

Since the move ended up ruining his championship dream, Denny Hamlin had some harsh words for Joey Logano after the race. Of course, at the time, he had no clue about the Team Penske star’s issues with Ty Gibbs. But his maneuver still compromised the #11’s race and its driver was not happy.

In the post-race interview, Denny Hamlin said that he felt Joey Logano was disrespectful towards him and Ryan Blaney. Both the drivers had earned the right to fight for the championship and an incident like that will obviously be frustrating.

“I mean, the only issue I really had was with Logano knocking out Ty (Gibbs) there, knocking to Ty into me, I just thought some more respect to be out there for guys that myself and the #12 we’re trying to earn a spot in the Final Four. And I thought that we deserved a chance to race it amongst ourselves and not have somebody else in there knocking cars around,” the driver of the #11 said.

At the end of the day, the #11 finished P3, but it was not enough to get Hamlin into the championship race. He will have to wait for at least another year to get a shot at the gold.
