Denny Hamlin mocking haters—Is he right to stand his ground or just adding fuel to the fire?

The Cook Out 400 at the Richmond Raceway has left the fans divided. While several fans supported Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano thoroughly after what happened with the two racers during the final lap at Richmond Raceway, a section of fans called their outcry to be a bit too much.

But it was only a matter of time before either of them decided that the limit was now pushed too far and enough is enough on trolling. Denny Hamlin did just that. Lashing out at the troll army and haters, the Joe Gibbs racer gave a jibe or two back to the haters, inflaming the entire conversation back to where it started.

Denny Hamlin was the first to lash out at the winner of Richmond Raceway. A relentless Austin Dillon kept on accelerating his Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 despite being in the contact range of other drivers. Joey Logano of Team Penske and Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing were victims of this charge. Both drivers were wrecked in the process as Austin Dillon went on to secure the win. After the race, Joey Logano was furious and called Austin’s actions “a piece of crap.” Denny Hamlin lashed out at NASCAR’s officiating standards. The 43-year-old speculated whether the sport will be taken seriously owing to the systemic failures of the sport.

NASCAR enthusiast and writer for The Athletic Motorsports, Jeff Gluck, recently posted a reaction post to a compilation video. The video mocked racers like Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin. It displayed the racers coming in contact with other cars, wrecking them, and driving passing through them in the process. The video had a caption In honor of #JoeyLogano and #DennyHamlin b*tching about being wrecked for a win… I present to you a montage of both of them doing the exact same thing.” Gluck reposted the video and pointed out the hypocrisy of such people. He said, “if you think the incidents in this video are the same as what happened on Sunday night, you might not know racing as well as you think you do.”

The comment opened an entirely new debate with Jeff Gluck at the center of it. Another skeptic had a reasonable rationale to give. He said, I disagree with you @jeff_gluck- wrecking is still wrecking. And the two biggest offenders in the #NASCAR garage, whether I think they are great people out of the car or not, are @joeylogano & @dennyhamlin.” The fan implied that the two racers crying out foul play at Richmond Raceway is simply hypocritical of them.

But Denny Hamlin had enough of this drama. Probably this time the haters instigated him too much. The racer mocked the rationale of this skeptic and used it to take a jibe at the whole online fiasco, “Lol. What a joke.” was the driver’s reaction to this entire saga. Short but aimed correctly, since it opened up the right kind of people who instigated the conversation further.

Lol. What a joke

Have an interesting take?

The whole ‘naysayers vs Denny Hamlin’ battle didn’t end there. People had a lot to say about Hamlin and many speculated whether the whole campaign against Austin Dillon and wrecking thing is after all a tactic by Hamlin to legitimize his own wrongdoings. A skeptic aptly puts it up, “Denny going to complain for the rest of eternity about how was injusticed at Richmond & then going to race Austin dirty a few times & say he’s entitled it. A dirty driver just looking for an excuse to race dirty.”

The rationale behind saying such things about Denny Hamlin is in fact, sound. This is not the first time that Hamlin has been involved in such an incident. The racer’s career is full of such episodes which are proof enough that his current stand can be something of a charade.

Not far back, the Phoenix Raceway saw how the current crusader could himself be a culprit. Denny Hamlin himself admitted that he wrecked Ross Chastain as the Trackhouse Racing star was set to win the Tricky Triangle. He did it in response to an earlier confrontation between him and Chastain. Denny Hamlin was docked 25 Cup series points and was fined $50,000 for the comments he made. Hamlin also wrecked Kyle Larson in the same season at the Pocono Raceway. While Larson had the best car throughout the race, he managed to finish 21st following the wrecking incident. Denny Hamlin, on the other hand, won the race.

In addition to these incidents, Hamlin was also involved in a brawl with Alex Bowman. After a wrecking incident that was flagged unintentionally by Bowman in Martinsville. Denny Hamlin couldn’t forgive the Hendrick Motorsports racer. He decided to wreck Bowman back through the streets of Windy City in Chicago. The wreck from Hamlin resulted in a rightwards spin for Bowman. The #48 lost his pace and intensity in the process.
