Will this be the year Denny Hamlin will win the NASCAR Cup Series championship? ‘Will this be the year?’ is a question Hamlin has been asked for several years. “This is it. This is the year. This is the year it’s going to happen,” is what Hamlin had previously said in 2024. The same was believed by the #11 in 2023 when he said, “I don’t think I’ve been any better.” And the same story goes around every year! Hamlin in his 19-year-long career has failed to bag a single Cup Series title.
With his 54 Cup series victories, he is the winningest driver to not win the Championship. A record the veteran doesn’t want to hold. He has on four occasions reached the final four stage, where his best finish came in 2010 when he completed the campaign with a P2. So close, yet so far! His chances for the championship have now almost become an annual topic to joke. And it’s one that Hamlin himself embraces! In a recent video from Dale Jr.’s Dirty Mo Media, Hamlin mocks himself on his championship chances. While fans pitied him.

Hamlin has to be NASCAR’s most successful driver to have not been a champion. And like every year, this year too Hamlin’s consistent performance and three wins have given him a playoff spot. But will he take the lead at Phoenix? Only time will tell. Like always, the #11 thinks he has a good chance this time. The NASCAR Cup Series playoff drivers were gathered at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the ‘Media Day’. This is where media personnel interact with drivers asking them about their aspirations for the playoffs and more.
At this event, Hamlin said, “I feel like our chances are as good as anyone. Now, I would say that the 45 (Tyler Reddick), the 20 (Christopher Bell), the 5 (Kyle Larson) have a better chance because they have more Playoff points going into the Playoffs. But, ultimately, we’re one of the very few cars that can win any given week.”
Also, during the event, Dirty Mo Media had a mockery skit planned and Denny Hamlin was in on it! It started with a shot of #11 walking to the ‘Media Day’ with a sticker behind his shirt, which read – ‘Please don’t ask him if it’s his year. It is always “his year”‘ Here take a look:

Following this, Hamlin reaches the interview, where Co-host from ‘The Dale Jr. Download’, Andrew Kurland, interviewed him. He asks Hamlin, “Is it your year?” And the camera pans to the sticker from earlier. Kurland apologizes for his question. Saying, “I didn’t see that right there.”

Adding to the confidence of fans is Tyler Reddick’s brilliant performance this year. Bagging the regular season trophy, he is a strong content for the championship. So either as a driver or as an owner, things are looking good for the #11. on this note, one fan wrote, “It is, his year” Wouldn’t it be great if Hamlin and Reddick fought in the final 4, increasing Hamlin’s championship probability to 50 percent? Another Hamlin fan wants the #11 to silence everyone who mocked him for not winning it yet. He wrote, “Take it all Denny. Take no prisoners in this war.”
While one fan wrote, “Go show em Denny and all Team 11!” However, the #11 team is not at a good start, going into the playoffs. Hamlin is currently 6th in the rankings and has only 15 playoff points thanks to his earlier penalty. Hamlin might regret those lost points later on. Knowing his luck, it’s probably going to come back to haunt him.

Yet the Joe Gibbs driver is positive of his chances. The video released is proof Hamlin doesn’t take the mockery so seriously. As he and all the NASCAR community know, even if the 43-year-old was to retire tomorrow, he’d be one of the most successful NASCAR drivers ever. A fan loved Denny’s spirit despite all the constant hate that he received for not winning. The fan wrote, “This is why Denny is the best lol”
