The Richmond race weekend has finally ushered in to exhilarate NASCAR enthusiasts, but it seems that the events from the past week are still bugging the minds of the fans. With Austin Dillon trying to pull off a Tony Stewart on Tyler Reddick, and Denny Hamlin taking home a contentious win after spinning out the Hendrick Motorsports speedster Kyle Larson, there has been a lot to debate throughout the week.

Whether the victory was justified or not is a topic that will rage on for some time, but there is no denying the fact that both the drivers fought hard in order to seize a victory and it was Hamlin who was able to capitalize on the situation by passing at Kyle Larson. Nevertheless, it seems that Denny Hamlin has found the perfect reason to justify the cause of the incident, and it is evident in the pre-race interview at Richmond.

A lot has been said and contemplated about the Pocono incident between the two star drivers, however, no definite conclusion has been arrived upon. Moreover both the drivers had provided their side of stories and each tried to justify their act. However, nothing seems to convince the NASCAR community as most enthusiasts pin the blame on the Toyota driver. But it seems that Hamlin has found the perfect to answer all the questions and settle the controversies once and for all.

The answer lies in the pre-race interview of Hamlin, where he was asked by one of the journalists, “Is it easier to do the move that you made in the Next Gen car?”

To this, the #11 Toyota driver retorted, “It is so different with the Next Gen because, with the other car, the guy on the outside would use the air to make the guy on the inside lose. You’ll see in the Xfinity Series or the Truck Series, the guys on the outside want to get closer to the inside guy and get him loose, and sometimes they spin, sometimes they don’t, but that is them manipulating the air to make it tough on that guy.

“In the Cup car, it’s the other way around. The power for the position is actually on the bottom, not the top. It certainly is a lot different than the other one.”

Whether the answers and claims made by Hamlin finally shut all the speculations and criticism is only a matter of time to decipher. However, what can be asserted from the whole ruckus of the controversial win of Denny Hamlin is the strained relationship between the two drivers.

It seems that the incident had caused a dent in the cordial relationship between the two drivers and this is evident from the thoughts shared by Kyle Larson. In an interview with FOX journalist Bob Pockrass, the Hendrick Motorsports driver revealed that he had not met Hamlin in person to sort the matters, but they texted each other.

Larson expressed, “Yeah it was brief and fine. We just texted a little bit late last night. He wanted to meet up, I just didn’t really feel like there was a reason to meet up because we were just going to agree to disagree and probably get more frustrated with him—and I’m sure vice versa he’d be frustrated with me afterward.

“So, I just felt the brief texts we had were good and ultimately I think was probably the best.”

With that being said, it is to be seen what time has in store for both drivers, will they be able to make amends in their relationship or will fail to stand the tests of time and will eventually fall apart? Nevertheless, for now, all eyes are on the Richmond race which is just steps away, and who shall win the race.
