The playoffs are just about to begin, and drivers are gearing themselves up for the final stage of the season. The regular season was won by Tyler Reddick, who is also in the playoffs, and now we will get to see who becomes the Cup Series Champion. His team’s co-owner, Denny Hamlin, has also made it into the playoffs, and after being dry for 20 years, everyone wants to know if this will be the year he claims a title for himself.

Before the race started, as all the teams were getting ready for the Atlanta Motor Speedway race, Denny Hamlin was asked a question about his driver Reddick winning the regular season, and the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing driver revealed what happened.

Denny Hamlin sat down with FOX Sports for the pre-playoff presser in Atlanta. As Bob Pockrass took the mic and Hamlin was on the other side of the table, success became the center of conversation.

Hamlin explained, “Well, I think the last 10 races leading up to Darlington were just phenomenal. They executed great; they didn’t have any catastrophic finishes.” Tyler Reddick had it easier for him as he did not face any significant wrecks or crashes during the final races.

This is unlike what other drivers faced, and Hamlin further explained, “And, you know, people like myself, Larson, and Chase—we did. We had crashes, some of our own doing, some not, and that just allowed teams like Reddick to pounce and capitalize on our mistakes.”

Pockrass then asked the JGR driver, “So, how do you avoid that over the next 10 weeks?” The response from Hamlin was quite simple as he explained, “Well, you just try to do your best again to be as far upfront as possible, and you just hope that the cars around you don’t make mistakes and get you involved.”

Recently, Hamlin has been all over the news when it comes to not wanting to sign the charter agreement. This all stems from the non-disparagement clause that states that NASCAR can take away a team’s charter if they speak ill of the organization.

According to Hamlin and his partner Michael Jordan, this is a “threat” to all the teams who are at the risk of losing a charter worth millions if they decided to speak up about NASCAR’s doing. To avoid controversy, or maybe to add some drama, 23XI Racing investor, Curtis Polk was wearing a teeshirt that told fans not to ask him about the charter agreement when they went racing at Darlington.

While that was before the deadline for the charter agreement, it looks like the team has not changed their mind. One fan even went ahead to put out a statement saying, “The France family is holding NASCAR back from progressing. They can’t get out of their own way to grow a sport they profit from in every aspect. Short-sightedness kills everything. No wonder Tony Stewart wanted out.”
