The off-season is a chance for drivers to relax. It is also a chance for them to spend some time with their partners and their kids. All year round, they hardly get to spend time because of the practicing and the events all around the country. It looks like Denny Hamlin will need some time with his kids after this!

Journalist Noah Lewis got a chance to catch up with a few drivers at the NASCAR Awards Show in Nashville earlier this month. With Christmas only a couple of weeks ago, he slipped in a couple of fun questions to the drivers.

He asked 2022 Cup Series winner Joey Logano, and others such as Chase Elliott, Kevin Harvick, and Denny Hamlin about their favorite Christmas movies.

Hamlin answered, “I mean Christmas vacations… just hard to replicate, and it’s so good. But Elf would be probably right behind for me.” He was then asked, “What about the kids?” That question left Hamlin hanging and speechless. After thinking for a little while, he chose the smart way.

He turned back and asked his partner, Jordan Fish, “What’s the kids’ favorite Christmas movie?” The super-mama she is, it took Fish only a few seconds before she came up with the answer.

“Home Alone?” she said. Hamlin then confirmed and repeated to the reporter, “Home Alone.” He added, “That’s a really good one too.”

Hamlin’s future with the team lies in similar circumstances as Busch’s did, with his contract expiring at the end of the 2023 season. With his co-ownership of 23XI Racing, there’s always that option for him.

Hamlin made clear, “I’ve always wanted to finish my career at JGR and I’m optimistic that will be the case.” He also added, “Well, there’ll be a time where my attention will be more needed as a team owner than a driver, but it’s going to be on my terms and when I want it to happen and when I think it needs to happen.”

“But I don’t think it … I don’t foresee ownership expediting my retirement. I think that my retirement will be a totally independent decision, regardless of where we’re at with the race team.”

Having wrapped up 614 starts and 48 wins for the #11 team at JGR, if 2023 is the last year he races with them, Hamlin will want to end on a high. He’ll want to grab as many wins as he can and give his long career the perfect ending it deserves.
