In the past few years, Kevin Harvick has made a name for himself as the king of Michigan, and with good reason. The veteran racer has won at the track four out of the last five times. His victory at the track last year was one of the most inspirational moments of the entire season. Harvick is in his final season at NASCAR in 2023 and a win at Michigan would mean a perfect ending to his illustrious career. While many want Harvick to be on victory lane in Michigan, Denny Hamlin believes that will not be the case in 2023. Not through any fault of Kevin’s but due to the car he drives.
Harvick is a driver for Stewart-Haas Racing for who 2023 has not been the greatest. The team is consistent and does a good job, but challenging for race wins has not really been the case over the course of the season so far. Hamlin believes a lot has changed since NASCAR moved on from the Generation 6 cars to Next Gen, including SRH’s competitiveness. He also believes that SRH did a better job with the car in 2022 than in 2023.

On an episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, co-host Jared Allen posed Hamlin the question of Kevin Harvick’s chances at Michigan.
Hamlin replied, “Yeah I know that, but so much is different. I mean, it really is. The cars are so much different. Yes, he won in Next-Gen last year. There were a lot of factors that played into that. Track position. I think that the SHR cars were stronger last year than what they are this year. Yeah, I mean, for now, he looks pedestrian.”
However, Snake Eyes believes that despite their shortcomings, Kevin Harvick and his crew chief Rodney Childers have always done a good job to maximize the output of the car they are working with.
“But they are the absolute kings of optimizing their day. They don’t make mistakes. That #14 just does a phenomenal job every week of finishing where they’re supposed to finish. Kevin’s race craft and Rodney’s chemistry, between the two of them, even when they don’t have the fastest car; they find a way to put themselves in the picture in the end”, he added.
Kevin Harvick was not the only person Hamlin spoke about on his podcast. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver was coming off the back of an eventful race in a rain-soaked Michigan. The conditions got so bad that the race had to be postponed to Monday. However, the slippery conditions had already claimed its fair share of victims, including a desperate Chase Elliott.

“You can chase points all you want and I think Chase Elliott brought up great points in the media center this week. You don’t need to chase points. Chase the win and the points will be there. I think it’s a very very true statement,” Hamlin said earlier on in his podcast.
