NASCAR Drivers’ opinions about tracks can make headlines just as much as their performances on the asphalt. In a recent turn of events, Kyle Busch made his feelings about Texas Motor Speedway abundantly clear. But his former teammate, Denny Hamlin, has sent a strong response regarding the fate of the playoff drivers in the upcoming races in the Round of 12.

Before the race at Texas Motor Speedway, Kyle Busch didn’t hold back when expressing his thoughts about the track. He labeled the NASCAR Cup Series race at the mile-and-a-half track as “lackluster.” A statement that raised eyebrows in the racing community and even got the attention of fellow drivers.

During a recent episode of his podcast, Hamlin emphasized that the Texas race was the single most crucial race of the playoffs due to the unpredictable nature of upcoming tracks like Talladega. While many drivers expressed their reservations about racing at Texas, Hamlin’s words might as well have carried a hidden message directed at Kyle Busch, who had been vocal about his desire to see Texas removed from the Cup series calendar, and who ended up in P34, practically destroying his chances in the Round of 12 in the process.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver said, “This is an important race. We said it before, Texas is like, in my opinion, the single most crucial race of these playoffs because the next two is the nervous ones. Like, everyone’s nervous now because of Talladega. How am I gonna end up? Or even debating Denny, would you take an 11th place finish like, talk about setting a low bar. But I thought about it. That’s how unpredictable it is. So, this was a crucial race. Everyone wanted to maximize their points at this track because of you know, the next two are just very iffy.”

The NASCAR world recently bid farewell to a legendary driver, Kurt Busch, who announced his retirement last month. But it seems that this isn’t the last we’ll see of him in the racing world. Kyle Busch, his younger brother, provided some insights into Kurt’s future plans. Kurt’s decision came after a violent concussion last season at Pocono forced him to sit out for the remainder of the year. However, retirement doesn’t mean he’s saying goodbye to racing entirely.

During the pre-race presser at Texas, the RCR driver was asked about how Kurt has been handling retirement and whether he has any intentions of staying involved in NASCAR in some capacity. Kyle Busch shared some insights into his brother’s mindset. Kyle expressed that he hadn’t seen Kurt much recently, acknowledging that the retirement decision had weighed heavily on him. The constant questioning about his future in racing had been akin to people asking newlyweds when they plan to have children.

He further revealed that Kurt had found relief in making his retirement announcement, as it removed the burden of those questions. “I mean, honestly, I haven’t seen him a lot. I feel like it was a burden kind of weighing on him, a lot of people always asking him. It’s like when you first get married. It’s like people asking you when you’re going to have kids, you know what I mean. So it’s like everybody asking Kurt. Well, when are you going to get back into the car… When are you going to get back in the car? So you just kind of have to get it out there, make that announcement.”

Kyle also hinted at where fans might see Kurt Busch race in the future, stating, “I think he talked about that.. going and running some different forms of racing and not long, 500-mile events like the NASCAR Cup Series is.” While Kurt Busch may have retired from the NASCAR Cup Series, it seems he’s not quite done with racing, and fans can look forward to seeing him in other exciting racing ventures.
