Known for his notoriously sharp tongue and unapologetic critique, Denny Hamlin has built a reputation for himself as the “bad guy” of NASCAR. However, this time, the otherwise negatively opinioned driver sang huge praises for David Gravel, the Sprint Car star, who performed at the Knoxville Nationals, held at Knoxville Raceway.

But what did Gravel show that brought up Hamlin’s refreshing and welcoming side? Did he break a long-standing record, or did he revenge-wreck someone? Well, it’s his impeccable finishing position compared to his starting position that led Hamlin to drop his two-word verdict.

David Gravel started driving for Big Game Motorsports in 2021 and has had a storied relationship with them owing to his 14 wins, which include 12 World of Outlaws wins. Recently, the #2 Maxim driver posted a throwback video on X, of his insane run at the Knoxville Raceway this year, where he clinched the runner-up spot despite starting the race at the back of the grid at P22. Pondering upon his impressive performance, Gravel wrote, “Remember when I came from 22nd to 2nd at this years Knoxville Nationals?! That was a bada$$ night!! #DG2 #Almost

 

 

Gravel’s revelation took little to no time to garner Joe Gibbs Racing driver’s attention, following which Hamlin praised Gravel’s fearless driving, giving his two-word verdict, and wrote, “I do. Sick drive.

Another fan expressed how Gravel’s performance made him a fan favorite overnight and commented, “I was neutral about being a Gravel fan prior to that night. After that night, I’ll rock my 2 shirt at any track. Hell of a drive.”

This fan joked that Gravel must have used additional equipment to boost his speed and wrote, “I thought you hit the NOS button lol.”
