Denny Hamlin is seen as one of the most controversial NASCAR personalities. Let’s just say he doesn’t filter out his opinions on topics related to the sport, which, at times, hasn’t gone down well with the fans. However, despite his out-of-the-ordinary attitude that led to negative headlines, Dale Earnhardt Jr saw a unique potential in Hamlin. So he offered him the role of an orator with his podcast show, where he would share his opinion on NASCAR and the debate around trending topics.
Initially, Hamlin wasn’t keen on switching to a new role, given that he already had his hands full with a role as a driver and team owner. But soon he realized how this opportunity would provide him a platform to share his opinions uncut and unfiltered. And he sure wasn’t going to back out, knowing that he would ruffle some feathers in the process.

Hamlin certainly hasn’t minced words when discussing important topics such as the Next-Gen car, the horsepower debate, and even the charter negotiations. We all know that recently, the JGR star got into a war of words with the CEO of Speedway Motorsports, Marcus Smith, over the conditions of the racetracks. Although his comments may sometimes lead to pushback or stir up controversies, he feels someone has to push the envelope and speak out about the major topics surrounding the sport.
Also, he feels he is only doing justice to his role and profession by speaking his heart out. “I always said my show is not a fact-based show. Mine is an opinion-based show. I get paid to talk about hot topics in the sport. I need to comment on things that sometimes are uncomfortable for me to have to comment on. Because there’s a conflict of interest, but that’s what I get paid to do,” Denny Hamlin said this on the Kenny Conversations show.
But isn’t he damaging his relationship with NASCAR by being a driver himself? That’s one way to look at it, but for Hamlin, being true to his nature has opened doors for new opportunities. “I’m speaking out because that’s my job, and we’re starting to see now other opportunities in the media beyond what we’re doing now … The minute I start converting and petting NASCAR’s back and say they did great, the legitimacy goes away and people will stop tuning in,” he added.
Talk about exploring more opportunities beyond just racing. Hamlin just might have created a brand for himself through the Action Detrimental podcast that will become the basis for his next venture.

Now, as much as fans say that they don’t like Denny Hamlin, they sure listen to him and his opinions via his podcast show. It just shows how influential and a key figure he’s shaping out to be apart from his exploits on the racetrack. But he is well aware of a future opportunity knocking on his door after his success with Actions Detrimental show. While the NASCAR community is accustomed to seeing him in that setting, he might not stick around with this project in the long run.
So is Hamlin really considering leaving Dale Jr’s Dirty Mo Media? Here’s what he had to say about it.

“Where it transitions to in the future, I don’t know. I think that it has spurred some conversations with current TV partners and things like that of what happens when I’m done racing. What can they do with me while I’m racing? So it certainly has given me the opportunity to grow my brand far beyond being just the race car driver, and I’m so grateful for that,” he added.
For a key figure like Denny Hamlin, who adds more to the sport like NASCAR, he is assured of landing on his feet after he’s done racing. But before that, a few of his ardent fans who rally behind him would like to see him lift that long-elusive championship trophy.
