Last weekend’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway saw quite a few action-packed nail-biting moments. However, for Denny Hamlin, things could have got a lot worse had he been taken out along with the wreck started by Ross Chastain, involving Kevin Harvick. It was just by a little that Hamlin did not hit the number 17 of Chris Buescher.

During the recent episode of his Actions Detrimental podcast, he addressed the incident. He also spoke about how he was put in a vulnerable spot during the final moments of the race.

Hamlin mentioned, “I knew I was close. I didn’t realize the 17. I didn’t see that. There were many times where… I don’t see the car coming from the bottom to the top and barely clipping, barely clearing my rear bumper…”

Hamlin only went in for a refuel. So as soon as he was done, he pushed out of the box to regain track position. However, on his way out, he was struck by the incoming car of Ty Dillon, who had yet to pit. This small incident sure did push the JGR driver a few spots down, as several other cars rushed to rejoin the track surface.
