The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series has seen many former champions fall from grace. Some big names like Chase Elliott didn’t even get a foot in the playoff door, while others like Joey Logano bit the dust due to speed issues and unfortunate tangles on the track.

To add insult to injury, Joey Logano, fresh from his playoff exit, couldn’t help but wear his heart on his sleeve. And while he tried to keep it under wraps, there was a hint of finger-pointing towards Roger Penske?s team for his season’s misfortunes.

Speaking his mind on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio, Joey Logano hinted that when the storm clouds gather and you’re not nimble, you’re bound to get caught in the downpour, losing not just track position but potentially the entire race. Logano didn’t pull any punches when he alluded to Team Penske’s shortcomings and the speed, or lack thereof, in their cars.

Putting his finger on the pulse, Logano lamented the lack of speed in the cars of Roger Penske across the three playoff races. He seems to believe a quicker pace might have steered him clear of the crash that put the brakes on his playoff run.

Drawing a clear picture, Logano stated, “You know, we weren’t super fast at Darlington; I got into the wall, cost ourselves probably eight or ten points. That?s probably the difference maker when we look at it right?how much we were up by. And then we did a good job at Kansas, not by having speed in the car but by executing a decent finish. But no stage points. Not fast enough to get stage points. And then last week?just slow. I mean, we were just slow the whole time, no speed in any of our cars, which was really frustrating.”

Yet despite his early playoff exit, Logano isn’t throwing in the towel. He?s got his eyes set on the horizon, preparing for the upcoming season and hoping to turn the tide in the races that lie ahead.

Taking a hit and bowing out early can be a tough pill to swallow, especially when the drivers are racing in the high-stakes arena of the NASCAR Cup Series. But Joey Logano, ever the silver lining seeker, is already laying the groundwork for his 2024 comeback.

He shared that the remainder of the 2023 season will be two-fold for him: backing #12 (Ryan Blaney) to clinch a stronger finish and doing some soul-searching to fine-tune his own game.

Logano quipped, “And now we try to get better for next year. At this point, we can?t back down. Like we?re fired up. I?m ticked. So, we are going to make some big things happen and will try to get better by the end of the year. And we got seven races to figure out. We got seven races to help the 12 try to win a championship. We?ll do that, and fire away next year even stronger.”
