For the first time in a long time, it seemed like Bubba Pollard finally had a car that could win the Snowball Derby. The veteran race car driver had not been close to finishing P1 in the iconic short-track event for the longest time, but on Sunday, he looked lightning fast. However, his dream of winning the event was dashed with less than 7 laps to go after contact with his rival Stephen Nasse.

After the race, Bubba Pollard expressed his disappointment as he missed out on what seemed like a sure-shot victory. Although many would suggest that it was nothing but the result of hard racing, there was a hint of salt in the 36-year-old’s voice. However, he also acknowledged that there were a lot of positives to take away from the weekend.

After the two drivers left Ty Majeski behind, there was an intense battle for the lead. Stephen Nasse was the man leading the pack with 7 laps to go, but he was not the quickest driver on the track. Bubba Pollard in P2 seemed a lot faster, and he was doing everything he could to take the lead and drive it to the checkered flag.

The 36-year-old was not afraid of pushing and hustling his competitor, and at one point, he pushed Nasse to the top of the track. The 28-year-old did not enjoy that maneuver as he came back down to block Pollard. However, things got too close for comfort, and the two cars made contact, sending them both into the wall and ending their race. Truck Series driver Ty Majeski took the lead in the race with six laps to go and picked up a comfortable victory in the end. After the event, Bubba Pollard was a disappointed man.

“Crash. I got nothing else. It is what it is. Got ourselves in position, we had a the race car, we kind of got off on that second run, third run…inched our way back in it on the third run, got it better and put ourselves in position…I ain’t seen the replays or nothing but I feel like he chopped me off pretty good because it knocked the wheel out of my hands we hit so hard. I ain’t gonna win, he ain’t gonna win kind of things,” the driver of the #25 car said.

However, the veteran racer also admitted that he had learned a lot after having a great car in the Snowball Derby. That had not been the case for a long time and it did give the 36-year-old something to build on ahead of 2024.

“Yeah, we had a good car. I think in ‘17 or ‘18 when Buescher won, we had a chance to win that year and really we haven’t had a good car capable of winning since then,” Pollard continued. “There’s a lot of things we learned in the last part of this year and…there’s more in this race car. I’ve learned a lot, I’ve made some mistakes. Next year they better be ready.” For Ty Majeski, however, that little stroke of luck was all he needed to claim his second Snowball Derby victory.
