Last weekend, Ty Gibbs clinched a maiden Xfinity Series win on his debut. In the process, he became the youngest road course winner, at 18 years, 4 months, and 16 days. Recently, he spoke to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio in the wake of his triumph at the Daytona road course.

The youngster spoke on a variety of subjects, and he even touched upon the buildup to his Xfinity debut. Ty Gibbs said, “I’ve never really worked this hard before. If I could have had something I’ve seen and wanted to do in my life, its racing. I’m going to do the best thing for my team and I’m going to work as hard as I can.

“I dedicated my life to this sport, from waking up really early to a lot of sim racing, going on the go kart track.”

Words could not express how Joe Gibbs was proud of Ty Gibbs

Former NFL coach and current NASCAR team owner, Joe Gibbs, cut a delighted figure; especially since it was his grandson in his Xfinity car who won the race. Safe to say, the 80-year-old admitted that he hardly dreamed about that moment, so the win was a surprise.

In fact, Gibbs Sr’s primary concern was that young Ty could crash early. In the end, that situation never came to pass and the 18-year-old went on to win the race, to everyone’s surprise. Of course, Joe also lamented that he would have loved to see his son, Coy Gibbs witness the occasion, especially since Coy took a more active role in molding his son, Ty.
