This weekend, the NASCAR paddock visits the Auto Club Speedway in California. In the buildup to the race weekend, some of the drivers were off doing their own thing. Among them was Bubba Wallace, who appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. The African-American driver spoke about many things, like his 2nd place at Daytona, his Netflix show, and Michael Jordan.
However, he started off with an explanation about the origin of his name, ‘Darrell Wallace Jr’.

He said, “When I was a kid, we had these T-shirts made. So I’m actually Darrell Wallace Jr. There was Darrell, not Waltrip; Wallace, not Rusty; Jr, not Dale. So yeah, we got them all.”

Unfortunately, the 23XI Racing driver has endured a difficult weekend. He was one of the multiple drivers who spun during their qualifying laps or in practice. As a result of his struggles, he ended up qualifying all the way down in 34th place. This placed him just ahead of Justin Haley and his own teammate Kurt Busch.
One of the contributing factors to the spins was the fact that the drivers are still getting used to the Next Gen cars. However, their cause was not helped by 30-40 kph wind speeds.

Somehow, last weekend’s race winner, Austin Cindric survived to stick his car on pole position. Right on his heels were Petty GMS Motorsports’ Erik Jones, and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch. Fortunately for Bubba Wallace, the race is long, and just about anything can happen in the next 200 laps. All that he needs to do is stay out of trouble and steadily make his way to the front of the pack. After all, he does have some unfinished business after missing out on a Daytona 500 triumph.
