A career in motorsports can be quite demanding. Daniel Suarez’s wife Julia Piquet knows that all too well, having come from a racing background as the daughter of three-time Formula 1 champion Nelson Piquet. Given that NASCAR racers are on the road for most of the year, traveling wherever the calendar expects them to, their lifestyle can be physically and mentally demanding. Not just for the drivers but also for their families, who often travel together from one racetrack to another.
However, Suarez seems to have hit a home run in this aspect, having married into a family where racing runs in their veins. The Trackhouse Racing star opened up about being associated with the Piquet family, and their insatiable love for motorsports.

Daniel Suarez and Julia Piquet have known each other for a long time. They first met in 2012 before getting engaged in November 2022, ultimately tying the knot less than a year later on July 30th in Brazil. They took advantage of NASCAR’s two-week-long break because of the Paris Olympics, which allowed them to fly out guests from the United States for the special day. The marriage was a significant one in motorsports circles, as it also blended two motorsports cultures, with Suarez being a NASCAR driver while Piquet coming from a Formula 1 background.
Speaking to Frontstretch, Daniel Suarez spoke about his marriage to Julia Piquet, and how he sometimes struggles to keep up with her love for racing, saying, “It’s been amazing really, it’s been very very good. She’s a huge fan of racing. Sometimes I believe she loves racing more than me. I love competing very very bad but she loves racing. She likes watching everything. She grew up doing this, I didn’t grow up racing. I grew up working on cars, she grew up on the racetrack with her dad and her brothers.” Julia Piquet would have grown up watching her father in his post-Formula 1 career. Julia Piquet was born in 1992 after Nelson Piquet retired from F1 in 1991. The F1 champ pursued developing racing teams but also racing at endurance events such as the 24 Hours at Le Mans when Julia was just 4 years old.
Despite their contrasting childhood, Suarez and Piquet’s love for racing makes their relationship stronger. The Trackhouse Racing driver expressed gratitude for his wife’s presence in his life, which has helped him cope with the demands of the NASCAR Cup Series. He went on to say, “I’m really fortunate to have her in my life and to have somebody who really really truly understands racing and what it takes to do this 100% because in NASCAR if you’re not all in, it’s not going to work. She knows I have to be all in and she supports me.”

The ‘Piquet’ name is highly respected in motorsports circles, largely because of Nelson Piquet’s three Formula 1 championship titles. Being associated with them has added pressure on Daniel Suarez, as he also represents the family indirectly after the marriage. Living up to those standards, the No. 99 Chevy driver secured a nail-biting win at Atlanta Motor Speedway by 0.003 seconds last year and went on to qualify for the playoffs. Despite being eliminated in the Round of 12, the Mexican driver surpassed expectations in 2024 and finished the year 12th in the driver’s standings.

What can Suarez look forward to in 2025?
Trending
Expectations are at an all-time high from Trackhouse Racing in 2025. Why would they not be? Justin Marks’ team has expanded their Cup Series operations for the upcoming season after acquiring a charter from Stewart-Haas Racing. Shane van Gisbergen will be joining NASCAR’s premier series as a full-time racer and driving the No. 88 Chevy alongside teammates Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez. Taking these factors into consideration, this could be the team’s most important year since they began in 2021.
Daniel Suarez can look back on his 2024 campaign with pride. The Mexican finished the year with his second-best Cup Series result, with crew chief Matt Swiderski playing an important role in getting there. The pair will be reunited for a second straight year in the upcoming season, and the No. 99 Chevy driver will hope to hit the ground running. Eight full seasons at NASCAR’s highest level has given the 33-year-old enough experience to consistently challenge for the playoffs, and that’s exactly what the team will have outlined as a goal for 2025.

In many ways, the upcoming campaign seems like a make-or-break for Suarez. The racer is in the final year of his contract with Trackhouse Racing after signing an extension in August 2024. Justin Marks’ side will be closely scrutinizing his performances this year before deciding his future. The team is aiming to become regular title contenders going forward, and will only want to retain drivers who can make their vision a reality. With 18-year Conor Zilisch, signed at a developmental role, quickly rising through the ranks, time will tell if Daniel Suarez fits into Trackhouse’s long-term ambitions.
