The NASCAR Cup Series opener is now edging ever so close but as always some of the teams are looking to make those key changes just before the event kick starts. In a major turn of events, Trackhouse Racing announced a new crew chief for Daniel Suarez’s No.99 Chevrolet Camaro. In what will be a swap deal with Kaulig Racing, Matt Swiderski will now join Suarez as the crew chief, while Travis Mack will head over to Kaulig as the technical director.
For Trackhouse Racing, all eyes will be on them as they have scalped some huge wins since their arrival in the big leagues. So this surely puts the onus on Daniel Suarez who has been inconsistent during his tenure with the team. The No.99 was winless throughout the season and missed out on the playoffs, eventually ending the year in 19th place in the championship standings. With Ross Chastain pulling his weight, Suarez is also expected to shoulder the responsibility. Unfortunately, results have not been up to the mark for Suarez and therefore the 2024 season is huge for him to prove his worth.

Both Trackhouse Racing and 23XI started their NASCAR Cup Series campaigns in 2021. While 23X1 with Bubba Wallace has shown steady progress over the years, the same can’t be said for Trackhouse Racing, particularly with Daniel Suarez. The second year was in some sense a breakthrough year for the Mexican driver as he won at Sonoma and made the playoffs finishing 10th in championship standings. However, the very next year, there was a significant dip in the performances.
The concern here is that while Ross Chastain who had made a reputation for himself in such a short span of time, Daniel Suarez has not been able to keep up with his teammate. Chastain’s 2nd place finish in 2022 and 9th place finish in 2023 suggest that Trackhouse are inching ever so close to that NASCAR pinnacle but they will need to be firing on all cylinders and this is where Suarez will have to play a huge role.
So needless to say the 2024 Cup Series season is a huge opportunity that can make or break his future at Trackhouse. Word on the street is that Zane Smith or Shane van Gisbergen can replace Suarez if he draws blanks again in the 2024 season. SVG is quickly growing on to the scene and it was announced recently that he will race full-time for Kaulig in the Xfinity Series and feature at the seven Cup Series races for Trackhouse in 2024.

Daniel Suarez will certainly have to pull his socks up for the 2024 season along with his new crew chief.

It is no secret that inconsistent runs and below-par performances have been a common theme for Daniel Suarez in the Cup Series. Even during his time at Joe Gibbs Racing and Stewart-Haas Racing, he was unable to reach the playoffs. The 2022 season is the only note-worthy accomplishment he has to show for himself but apart from this, his run with Trackhouse has been mediocre, to say the least.
But there is hope for Suarez with the addition of Matt Swiderski as his crew chief. Swiderski has won two Cup races with A.J. Allmendinger at Kaulig and will be looking to put that formula at work with Suarez. “I am looking forward to working with Daniel. We are both striving to achieve the same thing, winning. Every day we are going to work on perfecting the next steps that it takes to get more wins and compete for a championship.” Swiderski said.
