Although NASCAR is on a two-week Olympics break, some drivers are not staying idle. After the Cup race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, there was a hiatus, thanks to the ongoing Olympic Games. The Games are expected to end on August 11th, and incidentally, NASCAR returns on the same day. Now, many drivers are relaxing, but others like Kyle Larson and Daniel Suarez are still actively racing.

Of course, Larson is at his usual race track haunts, tearing up the dirt surfaces. However, Suarez is in more familiar territory, competing in the NASCAR Brasil Series. As the name implies, most races take place in Brazil, except for a handful of races in Uruguay, Homestead-Miami, and Sebring. The latter two are located in the United States of America, and Sebring even acts as the season finale.

This weekend, the NASCAR Brasil Sprint Series was at the Interlagos Circuit. This track is awfully familiar to F1 fans because the F1 paddock is an annual visitor at the venue. Now NASCAR fans had a reason to pay attention to this race because Daniel Suarez was on the grid as a driver.

Daniel Suarez’s next best day in Brazil

Apparently, Suarez’s driving antics were called into question during the race at Interlagos. While embroiled in a battle, and made contact with a fellow rival on the race track. As they jostled for position, the two cars collided on a few occasions, but no major accidents. However, the officials were not impressed with the stunt and slapped a 5-second time penalty to be added at the end.

Despite being caught up in a fierce battle and crossing the finish line in P1 in Race 1, Suárez was demoted due to a time penalty. On the bright side, he still celebrated his second win of the 2024 season. In Race 2, he stayed out of trouble and claimed the victory officially.

For the Mexico-born 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Champion, marrying into the Piquet family and winning in Brazil is a big deal. Suárez initially crossed the line ahead of Léo Torres and Cayan Chianca but was handed a five-second penalty for rough racing, which dropped him to sixth place. Frustrated by the unfamiliar Brazilian series rules, Suárez was initially disheartened by the penalty. However, his mood shifted dramatically in the second race as he emerged victorious.

Suarez also shared his first race penalty reason with his fans on X.

Torres, with his victory, also mentioned it was incredible to race against the competition, especially Daniel Suárez. “I love racing at Intelagos, even more so after being champion here last year. Being able to ride with so many motorsports beasts is incredible, not to mention competing with Daniel Suárez. Everything worked out in the end, and it was a perfect race“, Torres told Brasil NASCAR. In the second race, the roles were reversed for Suárez when Lucas Mendes crossed first but was given a time penalty.

In other words, he has enjoyed triumphs at the Cup, Xfinity, and Trucks level. This also encompasses the ARCA Series, NASCAR Mexico, and now NASCAR Brasil.

Many fans gave him his laurels

“They got F1 rules down there?” while others voiced out their concern for the non-NASCAR rules, “I realize it’s a different series with different rules, but penalized for simply racing is wild.” And, even comparing the penalty for rough racing, which dropped him to sixth place to Supercars and Formula 1, as it is somewhat fine in NASCAR, a fan wrote, “NASCAR Brasil officials have watched too much Supercars.

Someone even acknowledged that things were looking up for him. They said, “1st win as a married man!!!!!! Keep it rolling.” This was an obvious allusion to the fact that he recently got married to Julia Piquet. Another fan even said that the 2024 season has been very kind to him, especially this week, “This is the highlight of Daniel’s week.” Not bad for a driver who could be fighting for his career.
