When he won the Xfinity Series championship in 2016 for Joe Gibbs Racing, there was a lot of hype around Daniel Suarez. The Mexican-born driver had made history as the first non-American to have won a huge title in NASCAR. He then raced for 3 teams in the Cup Series before joining Trackhouse Racing. The 32-year-old now won the NASCAR Mexico race at the Coliseum. After the race, he revealed how a piece of paper got him to join the team.
He might have been with the team for a very long time, but the former Xfinity Series champion’s time in Trackhouse Racing may be coming to an end. Suarez has only made the playoffs once in 3 years and there have been rumors of Justin Marks’ team looking to replace the 32-year-old if results don’t improve.

He might not have made it into the main race of the Clash at the Coliseum, but Daniel Suarez had a masterful performance in the NASCAR Mexico race. He started from P3 and earned a fantastic victory to gain a lot of momentum ahead of the Daytona 500. In the interview after the race, Suarez spoke about the time he went against his dad’s wishes as he joined Justin Marks’ organization when he was asked about Ty Norris.
Norris is reportedly a partner to Justin Marks as a part of Trackhouse Racing. The 58-year-old was a journalism graduate who made the switch to NASCAR. The motorsports veteran has worked with several eminent teams in the past like Dale Earnhardt Inc, Speedway Motorsports Inc, Michael Waltrip Racing, and Spire.
“Ty and I we have a very special relationship. Back in 2020, he reached out to me and he told me about this project that he had with Justin Marks called Trackhouse. It was a piece of paper. He came to my house and it was a piece of paper and I bought in. I bought on him and I bought on Justin Marks and it was very special to be able to believe in a piece of paper,” Suarez said.
“I remember several people including my dad and my manager, they told me Daniel, because we had other captions as well, maybe we should go somewhere else and sometimes I trust my gut feeling a lot and at Trackhouse that’s exactly what I did,” the former Xfinity Series champion added.
The journey has lasted 3 years so far and throughout this time, Daniel Suarez believes that he and Ty Norris have become close friends.

The Mexican-born racer believes that he has been through a lot of ups and downs in his time with the team and with Ty Norris. If one looks at his record for Trackhouse Racing in the Cup Series, they have been quite inconsistent. However, these shared experiences have kept making their bond stronger, as per the driver of the #99.
“My gut feeling is telling me that Justin and Ty, they have the experience, they really want to do it right and it may take a little bit but I think we can do it. We’ve been through a lot together and to be able to call Ty not just a boss but also a friend because we’ve been through a lot of tough times but a lot of good times as well, is very special,” Suarez said.
