Winning it by the skin of his teeth, Suarez might have done it, that which he couldn’t do last season – to snag an early win and secure a playoff berth.
From an early accident on lap 2 to the victory lane, Suarez reflects on his thrilling comeback
With NASCAR getting a respite from the rain gods, Trackhouse Racing’s Daniel Suárez made a stunning return to the victory lane snapping his 57-race winless streak, trumping champions – Busch and Blaney in an epic thriller. The road was hard and harsh, the #99 driver had to recover from the early lap 2 pile-up, lost the lead on a restart with five of 260 laps remaining, but was able to power to the outside lane.
The #99 Chevy made it to the outside and was met with fierce competition from Kyle Busch who cut to the front through the middle while the reigning and defending champion, Ryan Blaney was in the chase going 3 wide on the inside, side-by-side-by-side to the finish the lane. In the final lap, Suarez made it three-wide coming off Turn 4 with the trio racing towards the checkered flag, with no clear winner, prompting NASCAR for a review.
Following the review, NASCAR declared Suarez as the winner by .003 seconds over Blaney, handing the Mexican his second career win and first since the 2022 season. Officially, it’s the third-closest finish in series history. The driver after his iconic win said, “It was so damn close, man. It was so damn close, it was good racing.”
