Danica Patrick has once again rattled the cage. The former Stewart-Haas Racing driver always had an affinity towards controversy. But this time around, she has taken it to a new whole level, putting up a social media post against the Joe Gibbs Racing driver, Martin Truex Jr.

It’s not her open admission on Martin Truex Jr. that has caused outrage in the community but it’s Patrick‘s insensitive and vile comments that are subject to brutal criticisms. The community was deeply saddened to hear about the JGR driver’s former partner’s passing, but Patrick’s thoughtless dig at him went terribly awry as fans called out her “pathetic” act.

Well, for one, former SHR driver, Danica Patrick was never really a fan favorite even when she was active in NASCAR before stepping away in 2018 at Daytona 500. Her outspoken ways and love for controversy have always made her a source of hate for fans. While riling up fans and creating controversy is a part of the sport, personal attacks on individuals were always shunned.

That’s exactly where Patrick crossed the line. Within hours of Martin Truex Jr’s former partner, Sherry Pollex’s passing, Patrick came out with a rude comment against the JGR driver, mentioning that she never was a fan of him. However, the plot worsened when the 41-year-old accused Truex Jr personally, deeming the driver’s mourning post was just another PR stunt.

She even went to the extent of saying, “[…] But this is the most insensitive disconnected statement from a guy that I have never liked.
And obviously for good reason.
I don’t care what happened between them but this is as cold as it gets.
A PR Rep wrote this guaranteed.
You’re free from this now, Sherry.” 

While her more glamorous posts have got her some following on social media, her insensitive comments like the latest one, have turned many in the racing community against her. Several fans even flooded her other social media posts calling her out for “shameful” comments.

Sherry Pollex and Martin Truex Jr had been together for the past 2 decades until they decided to part ways earlier this year. Even after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2014, Pollex remained an inspiration to thousands if not millions through her joint effort with Martin Truex Jr—the Martin Truex Jr Foundation.

NASCAR paid its respects to the fallen angel with a social media tribute, “The NASCAR family mourns the loss of Sherry Pollex, who fought tirelessly with her philanthropic efforts to combat cancer.” NASCAR driver also joined the mourning as Dale Earnhardt Jr, one of Truex Jr’s closest friends tipped his hat to Pollex’s indomitable will. “She was such a fighter. Inspiring in how she went about her own challenges but also how she learned to live every day to it’s fullest. Amy and I were lucky to have known her and call her a friend.”

“Richard Petty and the Petty Family is saddened by the loss of Sherry Pollex. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends!” wrote “The King” on his social media. While the prominent figures of the sport were paying their respects to the departed soul, riled-up fans did not shy away from expressing their distaste against Patrick’s disconnected story post.

They jumped her Instagram post, bashing the Skysports presenter for her insensitive post unapologetically. Take one look at the comment section and one will realize how bad the situation is.

“Not only did you s*ck at racing stock cars, you are also a vile human,” commented one user. A few users shared their thoughts respectfully while others resorted to expletives:
“Calling MTJ out for absolutely no reason is so pathetic”;
“Your IG story was neither the time nor the place for those comments to be made. Whatever happened between Sherry and MTJ was their private business and they chose to keep it private. Blasting MTJ for a statement not even 24 hours after Sherry’s passing is not the right mov”;
“It’s been 12+ hours, and you still have your bulls**t story post up. Shameful.”

Whereas some exposed Patrick’s hypocrisy, “Your friend just died and you post selfies? But you wanna bash Truex about his post.. Weird.”
