Danica Patrick has always found it in her to set herself apart from the crowd. Last weekend was no different. While the NASCAR Cup Series drivers were racing their way through the Darlington Raceway, Danica was facing a different battle elsewhere. The Burning Man festival attracts thousands of fans every year in the deserts of Nevada. And this year, Danica was one of them. In an unexpected turn of events, fans were stranded in the desert owing to storms and floods.

Finding her way back from Nevada, the former Stewart-Haas Racing star got on her Instagram handle to engage her followers with pictures from the festival. It comes as no surprise that she got into some fashionable outfits to make the best use of her time.

The Burning Man is an event that has been held since 1986. Known as an ecosystem of artists and makers, the festival attracts tens of thousands of people every year. The festival traverses the line between counterculture and a spiritual retreat and was scheduled to happen from August 27th till September 4th this year. As it proceeded as planned, the weather decided to play spoilsport. An unexpected storm turned the event into a rainy mess and got more than 70 thousand participants stuck in the desert.

Managing to get back from the event, Danica shared pictures of the better hours of the festival and flexed the different outfits she had adorned. Posting the images on her Instagram handle, she’d captioned them, “There is no better place than burning man to wear whatever you want. Everyone’s style is celebrated and part of the fun of the week. 🙌🏼”

Danica was widely known as a pop-culture icon in her time. Finding her place on the covers of prominent magazines, her style or fashion was never in question. Her dresses at the Burning Man festival were a reflection of the same.

Every year, the festival is held at a temporary setup that is created in the middle of the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. The site is located about 140 miles north of Reno. Going into the desert this year, the Burning Man faced issues after climate change activists blocked the route to the entrance of the festival. Adding weight to the troubles, rain hit the region hard on Friday and stopped the celebrations that were going on. As meteorologists confirmed that the rainfall was much higher than what it usually is around this time of the year, road closures were put into place and the festival was halted.

Danica’s posts on Instagram came after the closures were lifted and the organizers began letting the stranded people out. Coming back from the weekend, Danica was still in love with the festival’s character and spirit as she wrote in another post, “(…) Well… technically nothing has burned as of right now due to the rain but it was beyond memorable!!! The people and purpose make it so. Rain and mud can’t touch the spirit of BM!”
