Unlike what most enthusiasts thought it would be, NASCAR’s first-ever street race in Chicago went down in history as one of the most exciting races to date. Grant Park 220 had all the elements for a banger of a race. From a perfect finish from debutant, Shane van Gisbergen to last-minute twists, the street race really was a hellraiser for fans.

However, for Kaulig Racing‘s Brett Griffin, “Shane guy’s” stellar finish felt like a bomb as Griffin’s earlier comments came back to bite him hard. Moreover, fans scrounged up his previous comments to rub salt in his wounds after being proven wrong.

Grant Park 220 indeed was a modern-day spectacle in many aspects. While NASCAR went on a different route to arrange its first-ever street race, fans witnessed a spectacular outing where Cup Series debutant and 3-time Supercar Champion, Shane van Gisbergen put on a stellar run, acing his maiden NASCAR race in emphatic fashion.

Though Kaulig Racing’s young talent, Justin Haley gave SVG some competition, closing the gap and taking the lead from the Kiwi superstar. However, the Trackhouse Racing driver quickly took back his top position after a quick overtake in the final moments of the race.

But, what surprised the community was SVG’s exceptional run. While many so-called enthusiasts, including Brett Griffin, simply called him, “Shane guy,” belittling and ignoring his potential. And, now with the 34-year-old showcasing his racing prowess in the grandest of the stages, Griffin might have quickly realized his blunder to underestimate the New Zealander.

Soon fans trashed Griffin for his comments on social media, reminding him of the price for his ignorant comments.

One fan hilariously mocked him, commenting, “Someone check on Brett Griffin”

On the other hand, another fan wrote, “Dam ferners comin’ in and takin’ our jerbs!”

While another user pointed out Griffin’s outright disrespect towards the Supercar champ,

He called him that “Shane guy” and it’s the most ignorant statement ever. Has no idea how much of a wheelman SVG is.”

Whereas another random fan roasted Griffin by picturing him in a pub venting out his frustration,

Some poor sap is getting his ear talked off at some bar in Myrtle Beach with his whining right now.”
