Kelley Earnhardt Miller and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are two of the most influential figures in the NASCAR world. After the demise of their father and NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt in 2001, they have carried forward his legacy. Dale Jr. made his name by taking on the tracks and winning the iconic Daytona 500 twice. However, Kelley has been a driving force behind their NASCAR team JR Motorsports. She has been leading the team’s off-track operations at various levels since 2002 and was named CEO in 2022.

Notably, their strong family bond has always been at the core of their journey. Their biggest support system was their mother, Brenda Jackson. Despite being a single mother for much of her life, Jackson played a crucial role in shaping their lives. In 2019, she left them behind after losing the battle with cancer. On her mother’s birthday, Kelley took to her Instagram story to share a moving message. She posted a cherished memory from Brenda’s 50th birthday celebration, recounting how she had surprised her with a trip to Chicago. Alongside the photo, Kelley wrote, “Birthdays for you were fun! Miss ya momma, today, and every day! This was 50. We surprised you with a trip to Chicago!

Notably, Brenda was the daughter of Dale Earnhardt’s car builder, Robert Gee. In 1972 she married Dale Sr. and had two kids together: Dale Jr. and Kelley. After separating from Dale Sr., Brenda faced significant challenges. A devastating house fire that left her family homeless. She made the hard decision to send Kelley and Dale Jr. to live with their father. Despite the physical distance, Brenda maintained a close relationship with her children, making every effort to create lasting memories.

In a 2020 interview with Graham Bensinger, Kelley recalled how Brenda went to great lengths to make Christmas special for her children. “My mom was an awesome parent. She made every effort under the sun to create memories with us. She drove six hours from Norfolk, Virginia. We got in the car with her, drove six hours back. We would get home to her house at midnight and we’d have Christmas, right at midnight. Kelley had shared.

Notably, Brenda was very fond and proud of her kids. She often used to cherish their achievements both on and off track. She admired how Kelley conducted herself with integrity and demanded excellence in every aspect of her life. “Kelley’s standards are very high. She conducts herself that way, and she expects that of everyone else,” Brenda said in the past.

Apart from Kelley, Brenda also shared a very emotional bond with Dale Earnhardt Jr. She was proud of his accomplishments on the track, but even more so of his kindness and dedication to family and friends. “Dale Jr. just gets bigger and bigger. I am very proud of his accomplishments, but as a mother, I am proudest of the way he handles himself—with honesty and the way he cares about his family and his friends,” Brenda had said.

Much like her mother, Kelley Earnhardt Miller is a force of nature, not only in her professional life but also as a mother. She has embraced the role of mentor and cheerleader for her son, Wyatt Miller, who is carving his path in the racing world. His career began in 2020, and he has already achieved impressive milestones, including multiple championships and victories across the Midwest.

She is deeply involved in Wyatt’s burgeoning career, attending races and offering guidance. In an episode of The Dale Jr. Download podcast, Kelley shared how Wyatt’s knowledge of motorsport amazes her.

“He is non-stop on YouTube. I always can hear him listening to old racing broadcasts – sprint car, NASCAR, motorsports. I mean, he, for the longest time, was watching Dan Wheldon’s kids. So, like all these things that he does, I know as parents we are supposed to know everything our kids do, but yeah, he is like an encyclopedia sometimes,” Kelley said.
