The ambition behind Project 91, as projected by Trackhouse Racing, “Designed to push the guardrails and expand our international reach.” Remaining true to the adage, Justin Marks’ NASCAR team has opened its door to drivers from all various formats of racing, including Formula 1 and V8 Supercars. He has housed drivers like Kimi Raikkonen to reinforce that NASCAR is a versatile sport and is open to drivers all across the globe.

Following the same ideology, Marks had also spared a seat to the 3x Supercar champion Shane Van Gisbergen, who is now set to return to the tracks of NASCAR for a second stint after his newfound success on the streets of Chicago. Moreover, it is also speculated that the New Zealander is set to join NASCAR full time in the next season.

However, the question that arises at this juncture is, which team shall SVG join. Will he maintain his allegiance to Trackhouse Racing and Justin Marks? Furthermore, if the team retains SVG for the next season, will Trackhouse house a three-car team? Well, the answer to this lies in Dale Earnhardt Jr’s podcast.

The New Zealander spills the beans on the experiences he gained in the Cup Series on Dale Earnhardt Jr. podcast

The inception behind Justin Marks’ visionary team, Trackhouse Racing, was perhaps due to Chip Ganassi Racing and their decision to sell all of its NASCAR’s assets to Marks. Since then, the team has never looked back and has proved its prowess as a Cup Series team. Moreover, the ambitions of Marks were not confined to the tracks of NASCAR, but also to increase the global reach of the sport.

Owing to these beliefs, Justin Marks has hosted drivers like Kimi Raikkonen and Shane Van Gisbergen under its experimental team. This bargain surely paid off for Justin Marks as the New Zealander has shown intentions to join the Cup Series from the next season. However, if SVG joins NASCAR, which team shall he be representing on the grid? It seems that SVG already has a name in mind, and was evident in his conversation with Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Van Gisbergen expressed, I had some good chats with Marcos [Ambrose] about it and he is in a similar position where he won his two championships, and then his sport was a bit different, he was looking for something else then. We have pretty similar stories. He had just to kick him over here and he just loved it.”

When asked what he was advised by Ambrose, SVG divulged, “Just get over here as soon as you can, and go give it a crack and you got plenty of years left live over here and bid yourself a rockstar. Coming here just opened my eyes. I have watched it obviously but have never been to a race and going to Nashville was a whole new world, how long has this been going on? […]”

Continuing on the same lines, regarding his intentions of joining the grid, the 2x Bathurst winner also revealed, “I don’t think jumping straight into the Cup stuff, you need a lot of time to come here and adjust to the lifestyle and see how it all works. I am used to driving 12-18 weekends in the year, and not 36 so that would be a big adjustment, and learning all the oval stuff and how they work the routine so I need a lot of learning time.”

“Try to work with Justin who I would love to be with like the Trackhouse team is awesome. I really enjoyed my time with him and how Justin speaks and what his plans are. He is pretty motivating something I would want to be a part of,” SVG added.

Listening to the words of the Chicago race victor, Earnhardt Jr. also asserted the fact that Justin Marks’ visions seem to align with those of the driver and that he would be the best choice in providing the impetus to SVG.

The driver also asserted that Marks would be able to provide the much-needed time and patience to get acclimatized to NASCAR’s environment.

Nevertheless, it is to be seen if the plans fall into their designated place and whether the team is able to host a three-car team in the next season or will SVG will move to another team, but for now all eyes are on the tracks of Indianapolis for the second stint of SVG.
