Back in the 2000 season, Dale Sr appeared in an interview and spoke about his desire to add to his Daytona win tally.

Along the way, he even cheekily revealed the tactics he would use to try to win.

He said, “Hopefully we can win another Daytona 500. Dale Jr can maybe run second, Steve Park there with us and scaring the rest of the guys.”

“I’ve got quite a group now, with Dale Jr and Mike Skinner, Steve Park and myself. Sort of not teammates but we are teammates. We work together with Richard Childress and Dale Earnhardt Incorporated to make our teams and our cars the best we can.”

“So we really try to look out after each other and try to help each other. [Who gets to win?] Should be me, I’m the senior exec, so I should be the guy on top.”

Dale Earnhardt has a rich NASCAR legacy

As a seven-time Cup Series champion, tying with the legendary Richard Petty, Dale Sr. is regarded as a legend.

However, for a long time, there was one trophy missing from his mantelpiece. As mentioned before, since his debut all the way back in 1975, Dale Sr had never won the Daytona 500.
