At the Chicago Street Course, it was Alex Bowman who emerged victorious in the rain. This is his first win of the 2024 campaign and snaps an 80-race win drought. So one would not exactly blame him for wanting to celebrate pretty hard. After the race, the #48 driver declared that he was definitely going to get wasted.
The way he said it, implied that this is not the first time that Bowman has pulled such stunts. In his exact words, “We’re going to drink so much damn bourbon tonight. I’m probably going to wake up naked on the bathroom floor again.” Later on, the Hendrick Motorsports driver posted on social media, showing that he was sort of true to his word.
It didn’t take long for social media to react to the hilarious scenes. Leading them was Dale Earnhardt Jr, who cheered on his former Hendrick Motorsports compatriot. With this, Alex Bowman now joins his teammates, Chase Elliott, William Byron, and Kyle Larson, as Playoff contenders.

This is the start of the Alex Bowman redemption arc
Truthfully speaking, Bowman desperately needed this win to boost his confidence. His last win came in 2022 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the second race of the season. Since then, he has failed to reach Victory Lane, not counting a couple of gaps where he missed races due to injury.
2023 was when it hurt the most for Alex Bowman. This was because he missed out on the Playoffs for the first time since joining Hendrick Motorsports. At least he had Chase Elliott to share his misery with, because the #9 driver also injured himself and missed a few races. As a result, both drivers missed out on the Playoffs for the first time in their HMS careers.
Earlier this year, Elliott redeemed himself by snapping his own winless streak. The 2020 Cup Series champion achieved this at the Texas Motor Speedway, and he booked his own berth in the Playoffs. That left Alex Bowman as the odd one out and the pressure was on him to keep up with his teammates.
