Dale Earnhardt was one of the most fearsome NASCAR drivers, and thanks to his exploits on the race track, he earned the nickname ‘the Intimidator.’ However, his rowdy exploits were only restricted to the racetrack, as her wife, Teresa Earnhardt, wouldn’t tolerate his shenanigans outside of racing.
Very little is known of the chemistry that Earnhardt Sr and his wife Teresa shared. Moreover, there are not enough stories about them in the public domain that could help fans learn about their equation. But NASCAR icon, Rick Mast, recently shed light on an unknown story from when he and Dale Sr were shooting for a Remington commercial. Which also gave an account of the bond the couple shared.

Rick Mast recently made an appearance on The Rick Mast Show with Charlie Marlow. While he did speak at length about how NASCAR has progressed over the years, he also shared key insights from his career. But the major takeaway was his story revolving around Dale Sr and his wife Teresa, while shooting a Remington commercial.
So apparently, Dale Sr and Mast, during their free time from the shoot, were keeping busy with shooting skeets. Teresa was also present at the shooting site, and Dale Sr wanted to show Mast what a good shooter she was. And what happened next left Mast stunned.
“And I’ll never forget they threw ten birds out or clay, and she knocked nine of them down, and I’m like, damn. What in the world? Dale had been telling me that she was real good; she’s a good shot, and I said, Good Lord, Teresa, where’d you learn to do that? She said Daddy taught me … I remember looking at Dale, I said I know why you don’t ever mess up, boy because she’ll shoot your a**, she’ll kill you, so that’s why you’re pretty straight,” Mast said on The Rick Mast Show on YouTube.

The 67-year-old also went on to reveal how big of a heart Dale Earnhardt had, “When it’s all said and done, they asked Dale, How do we invoice? What do you charge? He says, ‘You guys figure out what you would think you would pay me to do this; two days being up here with you people, take that check and write it to the race team; you give that to the Rick Mast race team.’ I thought, damn, that’s pretty cool.”
On the other hand, the relationship between Teresa Earnhardt and her stepson Dale Earnhardt Jr has been sour for the most part. But surprisingly, the two are on a path to make amends, as Jr recently got hold of the #8 DEI team as Teresa decided not to renew the trademark rights to her name.

The NASCAR community is well aware of the public feud that both Dale Jr and Teresa Earnhardt were a part of after the passing of Intimidator. Both Teresa and Jr were involved in a public battle to get hold of Dale Sr’s living possession, DEI. The tussle reached its boiling point when Jr’s stepmother famously said, “If Dale Jr doesn’t want to stick around here we’ll make another Dale Jr.” He did leave the team, but in the process, he also lost his claim to the #8 team.
However, after all these years, it seems like Dale Jr will finally be able to get ownership rights to the #8 DEI team. Teresa decided not to renew the rights to her name before June 3rd, 2024, allowing Jr to get hold of the trademark. In a recent episode of DJD, Jr was glad that No. 8 always remained within the family. “I just wanna say that my feelings around this are very plain and basic. I either won’t choose her to have it…and if she were to come in and re-up, I’ll be totally comfortable and happy about that…Or I would like to have it. I would love it to stay hers or mine, and not end up somewhere else.”

He even expressed that he had complete faith and trust in Teresa to keep the DEI intact and protect the family legacy. “There’s one thing I’ll say about Teresa…In terms of owning a trademark and protecting things like that, protecting our legacy and family name, I had a lot of trust in her around those things. She’s very smart, very savvy, always thinking…She takes emotion out of business decisions and says, ‘This is what’s fair, this what’s right.”
It’s still unclear what Dale Jr is planning to do with the trademark of the No. 8 team now under his control. But it’s certainly good to see Jr and Teresa trying to bury their past differences.
