Did Amy Earnhardt miss witnessing a legendary comeback, or was family time the real victory?

We all knew how to tune into Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s historic comeback, right? Tickets to the South Carolina 400 were available online, while the race streamed exclusively on FloRacing on November 23. Despite reviving his old racing colors after 17 years – the bright red No. 8 and Budweiser’s initials – Dale Jr. did not have his wife to see him.

There was a simple reason for that – sweet sleep. Amy Reimann married Dale Jr. in 2016, and soon after, they nourished a beautiful family of four. Taking care of their two adorable daughters drooped Amy’s eyelids – and in the process, she missed out on her husband’s legendary race that thousands of people flocked to watch.

Florence Motor Speedway reported a sellout for Saturday night. After all, the 15-time Most Popular Driver of NASCAR would be competing against the cream of the CARS Tour. In his battle garments as well, Dale Earnhardt Jr. wore Budweiser’s flaming red colors. He sported the same when he drove the No. 8 to Victory Lane 17 times between 1999 and 2007. Fans caught a glimmer of that old glory despite Dale Jr.’s poor qualifying effort of 53rd place. He drove his car from 37th to 2nd place soon after lap 40 of the race. However, his better half could not witness this victorious journey.

Amy Reimann confessed her reason for absence in an Instagram post recently. She captioned, “What a fun night! I heard the 8 was bad fast. I fell asleep putting the girls down and missed the whole thing.” Yet the interior designer did not miss out on the post-race festivities. Reimann posted some beautiful family photos – Dale Earnhardt Jr. and herself posing with their children, Isla and Nicole. The two girls were decked up in bright red outfits, boldly sporting Budweiser’s logo, in tune with their father’s iconic racing venture.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s wife truly missed something breathtaking in Florence. The 26-time Cup Series race winner showed proof of his strong racing roots in Late Models. Dale Jr. took advantage of the red flag waved mid-race – which saw Mason Diaz and Conner Jones get engaged in a brawl. After that, the veteran hounded race leader Treyten Lapcevich for a long way, giving the young Canadian racer clammy hands. However, with 31 laps remaining, Dale Jr. had to pull up for an engine issue. That allowed Lapcevich to breathe easy on his final run to the victory.

Although Amy lamented about missing this spectacle, she had urged Dale Jr. to race before.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. hung up his Cup Series firesuit in 2017. After that, he kept appearing sporadically in Late Model races while running his NBC Sports broadcast booth duties. However, Dale Jr. left NBC at the end of 2023 and barely stepped outside for a race or two. So, despite missing out on her husband’s iconic Budweiser comeback, Amy Reimann had actually motivated him to go out and race. She confessed a few months ago that her racer husband’s constant presence felt odd to her, whereas Dale Jr. used to have a jam-packed schedule juggling racing duties, team owner responsibilities, and podcast videos, now that work has dwindled.

Reimann candidly confessed her thoughts about seeing Dale Earnhardt Jr. at home instead of the racetrack. “I will say that I have enjoyed all the activities and fun things we’ve been doing. But there was a point where we were at the beach, and I thought somebody better come get this man because I’m not used to having him home so much, and I do like being alone.” Now, she has successfully accomplished her task. Dale Jr. stunned his fans after a spectacular run in Florence. Despite a 28th-place finish, people will be eagerly waiting for the next Late Model Stock Car races that he will run with the No. 8 logo.

So Reimann may have missed Dale Jr.’s No. 8 revival in Florence. But Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s better half supports him in his racing pursuits more than anybody else.
