YouTuber and racer Cleetus McFarland fulfilled what can only be described as a bucket-list moment. He got to hang out with none other than Dale Earnhardt Jr at the Talladega Superspeedway. McFarland is a massive Earnhardt fan, having bought a truck that was decorated with Dale Earnhardt’s classic black #3 paint scheme.

Cleetus wanted Jr. to have a ride in his truck, which wasn’t stock in nature as it had twin turbos. Well, Jr. got inside the special truck and attempted to pull off a drag-race style launch, and his first attempt ended in a burnout. But he nailed the launch in his second attempt. Both Cleetus and Dale Jr. have started out hanging with each other, and in turn, they’ve delivered cool content for the race fans.

However, the YouTube sensation sees this relationship as more than just a collaboration, and it was evident from the surprise gift he gave to Dale Jr. and his family. After the tire burning session at Talladega, McFarland made a surprise visit to Jr.’s house and along with him, he brought two white swans. Both Dale Jr. and Amy were surprised to have two new members to their already-packed pet family. But, in the end, it all worked out for them.

Dale Jr. and Amy Earnhardt appreciated Cleetus McFarland’s surprise gift

Amy Earnhardt confessed on the Bless Your Hardt podcast, “The swans are good. They are Geroge and Cleo, they are down in the pond and they’ve almost cleaned up the pond. Everybody is just fascinated, they seem to do good and the pond used to be covered in green algae and now it’s clean… That was a fabulous surprise. I don’t like surprises and that blew me away.”

As it turns out, the Earnhardts are massive fans of animals. To the point that they are proud owners of nearly a farm full of critters. Aside from traditional pets like dogs and fish, the Earnhardt family owns buffaloes, donkeys, a mule and even some butterflies. The pair of swans from Cleetus McFarland only adds to the menagerie of animals in the household.

“Two swans, four female buffalo, five donkeys, one mule, two dogs, a bunch of fish in the fish tank and some butterflies. We have a butterfly kit, and they have cocooned. They started doing that yesterday, and they’re all hanging upside down. In 10 days or so, we’ll have butterflies.” Amy added, and by the looks of it, they will have butterflies joining their pet collection soon.

From burnout to top 10 finish—does Cleetus McFarland have what it takes to be a racing legend?

Have an interesting take?

Well, McFarland certainly learned a trick or two from Dale Earnhardt Jr. on how to grind through a superspeedway race. After a heartbreak in the ARCA Series race at Daytona, he once again felt like a bald eagle finding his way across the 2.5-mile at Talladega Superspeedway. The only difference here was that he finished the race despite the odds stacked against him.

McFarland registered a top 10 result at Talladega

Garrett Mitchell didn’t have the best of starts to his race as he forgot his HANS Device and was slow to start the race from the pits. Starting from P24, he quickly switched gears and found himself running inside the top 10, and it looked like he was gearing up for a strong finish. But he reported an issue with his engine, and the only potential solution his team provided at the time was to ride it out.

After falling to 20th place, he hammered down and started making moves. With the race being decided on a one-lap shootout, McFarland, starting from P14, knew things were about to go wild on the restart, and it did. As the field reached Turn 1, a slow car stacked up the field and that led to a big pile-up. McFarland navigated his way to the chaos, and as the caution flag waved to end the race, he found himself inside the top 10.

“I’m telling you, they’re getting on radio like ‘keep your momentum’ and I’m like, ‘brother, this sucker is wide open.’ You know what I’m saying? So we fell out of the draft and dude, it felt like I was riding a horse out there. You know what I mean? Everyone is blowing by me. And thankfully, a caution came out. We stayed on the lead lap.” He said after the race. There is a possibility that we might have McFarland back in the ARCA car again at Dega this fall. However, for the time being, nothing is confirmed.
